I know Jenner's transition is somewhat controversial, but at the end of the day it brought transgender people into the spotlight for better or worse.

What I find troublesome is recent news articles where Jenner has slipped up and said some silly things that make her look a bit ignorant. And now a new interview where she admits being a woman is more than "Hair and makeup". I think she actually stole this quote from Jenny Boylan, but regardless what I find troublesome is the TREMENDOUS amount of hate and bigotry that these articles are harvesting amongst cis people and transgender people.

If you look at these articles online, there are just 100s upon 100s of negative hate fueled comments from cis people. It's extremely upsetting and eye opening to what people really feel.

Are we better off without Jenner as a community with very little voice? Or Do you feel that regardless of the word vomit that seems to keep coming out her mouth, it's still beneficial to have her in the spotlight?

I'm sort of torn on this right now. But i know that regardless of what she says or does, the haters are still going to hate.

I agree that Caitlyn has stumbled in her interaction with the world since her announcement.  But, do you really believe, if she had handled it perfectly, how ever one might go about defining that, that the 100's and 100's of malicious comments would have been slowed to a trickle?  In satisfying the hateful, she was in a no-win situation with no way to do it privately.

I have enormous respect for KJ, both for her accomplishments before her TV career, for her willingness to share her transition with the world regardless of her motive, and for what I believe to be a genuine dedication to improving the world for transgender people. I don't have any problem with her earning money from her TV career. She's allowed to have an occupation. She's also allowed to have opinions and they're allowed to be different from mine.

I wonder how much of the the venom toward her in the trans world results from jealousy of her looks, wealth, and fame.

At the time my concern was the impact on individuals young in their transition.  She looked so pretty, felt I could never measure up.  Her statement about not wanting to look like "...a guy in a dress" has driven my post transition goals.  FFS and maybe BCS (breast correction surgery) are on my bucket list for 2016.

I work in Hollywood where you would think it's trans friendly...wrong!  Hollywood has no trouble exploiting us but they sure don't want to employ #GirlsLikeUs.

Reading comments posted on TMZ gossip pieces is devastating.  So much hate for trans folks.  Seriously need to lobby to become a protected class.  There appears to be a sharp rise in attacks of transwomen in conservative Orange County, CA.  Is Ms. Jenners's public transition to blame?

I have noticed pubic acceptance of me has increased with continued improvement to face, body and voice.   Despite how ugly the truth really is, perhaps Caitlyn has the right idea, Pass or Fail.
Hope I pass in her eyes at tonight's event.

I've noticed that the comments on transgender articles are all from the same sort of people - the haters. I quit replying to comments in those articles long ago because I got tired of the endless vitriol, and I suspect that other supporters have done the same. So I take those comments with a grain of salt knowing that they are posted mainly by the haters.

I've been dwelling on KJ's transition and where she has gone "wrong" for a while now. It seems to me that her position of power and wealth and her living in a gated home on the beach in Malibu have largely isolated her from the community and the daily experience that you or I get. This isolation plus being newly transitioned and ignorant of the concerns that go with living life as a transgender person at our level - with a TV camera in her face - has led to many opportunities to put her foot in her mouth - the hair and makeup comment comes to mind, as does her comments about people being on welfare.

Her trip to the HRC was a good step toward understanding us. Her being surrounded by people like Jenny Boylan is also good. Her being surrounded by Hollywood celebs as we saw on her show is probably not a good thing.

She has the power, the wealth, and the position to open doors and to be a remarkable spokesperson for the community - if she so chooses. Her power, wealth, and position also work to hurt us if she adopts positions that are against our best interest as a community.

I think that if she if she wants to be a spokesperson for the community she needs to learn and care about the issues at our level. If she doesn't want to be a spokesperson for the community - fair enough - then she needs to realize that her casual, off the cuff comments are causing damage to our community because of who she is. Hopefully the backlash that she keeps getting about those comments is teaching her that lesson.

I think it's important to note that although Jenner is a transgender woman and famous that doesn't automatically make her a trans advocate in any way. I am sure many other trans people in a similar position would become that advocate but she is not at all required or should be requested to play that role. I think she should watch what she says considering her words will be retransmitted but that shouldn't mean she shouldn't speak what she says. Because if she doesn't want to be a trans advocate we shouldn't force her to be. Just my thoughts.

I'm less impressed with some (many) of the comments I've read about her right here on this site than any of the comments she's made.

I say with confidence that she is a better member of this community than many other members of this community. She is out there for everyone to see, not home whining about not transitioning if she can't pass 100% of the time. I have nothing but respect for her.

Sorry folks but this thread is already ripe with statements that are borderline bashing. No one is perfect. Considering I can only see this thread going further down hill.
