Here's why feminism must embrace trans people

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jan/14/feminism-must-embrace-trans-people-parliament-equality-gender-barriers

The Guardian/By Polly Toynbee  01/14/2016

"Transgender people have erupted into the news in the past couple of years, whether it's Caitlyn Jenner's glamour pose on the cover of Vanity Fair or Eddie Redmayne portraying a trans woman in The Danish Girl. Jack Monroe transitioning made the headlines, and there was also the jolt of a macho boxing promoter emerging like a butterfly as Kellie Maloney."

I made the mistake once again, so I will remind everyone DONT READ THE COMMENTS.

I keep making that mistake and I know its just going to wreck my mood and put me in depression town but no I cant leave well enough alone. Sigh.

What is a Lie when it's at home? Anyone?
Is it the depressed little voice inside? Whispering in my ear? Telling me to give up?
Well I'm not giving up. Not for that part of me that hates myself. That part wants me to wither and die. not for you. Never for you.  --Loki: Agent of Asgard

Reading the comments for us is like being in a fundamentalist religious sect and engaging in a session of self flagellation.  It leaves you bloody and never ends up feeling good.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

I think feminism should include even more than just trans people. To me, feminism is about embracing femininity. Femininity is seen as weak, and anyone who shows the faintest amount of it is weaker because of it. That's what feminism should be against. I don't see why trans women or even feminine men are exempt at that point. Femininity, to me, can be a strength no matter who you are. Of course women are the biggest part of that, but it goes even beyond that.

An un-moderated comment section provides a place for the bigoted to spew their vile comments without much of a possibility of getting in trouble for it. So, it is my belief that most of the hateful comments come from such people, and reasonable or counter arguments get shouted down or simply lost in the morass of vitriol.

If someone were to assume that the comments represent the majority of people then I could easily see how that would be demoralizing - just keep in mind that most of those comments are coming from trolls and from the peanut gallery and I believe that they do not represent the prevailing view of most reasonable adults.

And most importantly - don't read the comments!

The Guardian comments are moderated but there's also a lot of people on there that seem to like to read it so that they can then be annoyed by the liberal leaning of the articles... why can't they just go back to the daily mail? :P
