Well, we've already handled the topic of Crying, so now it's time for smiling!

Ok, it will be harder to really sample people's tendency to smile with a poll, so don't take the poll itself too seriously.
But I am interested in how people feel about smiling and how it has changed with hormones (either estrogen or testosterone).

LOL...just seeing the poll made me smile!!!

I smile just about all the time...people...pets...objects...the TV...what ever!

I haven't noticed any differences pre/post HRT either...

Peace and love,
Izzy

I have to agree with Izzy and also say that Renate, you didn't put in a selection for "smile constantly!" Okay, most of the time, not constantly.

I have for the most part a smile on my face. It hasn't always been that way. It started when I accepted myself. It didn't have anything to do with hormones, hormones did help, but it was the fact that I quit the denial.

I have found that smiling can be a great intimidation tool. I found that when I smile a lot, people are more wary. When I add humming and the occasional, "I got new socks" then I can usually have an entire elevator car to myself or even most of a subway compartment.

Love that style.  I love to smile, makes people think you are up to something.  But when they ask me I tell them I'm not smiling, I'm trying to get a tan on my teeth.  That makes them go away.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

You don't have a choice for "smile at people". I'm not a smiling person when alone, but almost always when I meet or greet people anywhere, even just walking down the street. It's my natural reaction to people.

I was just looking at my picture - not a nice face amongst them.

I tend to keep a slight smile on my face all the time.  It makes me feel younger and prettier, and it doesn't cost anything to share with someone who might need one.

I smile most times, actually I am mostly in a good humor and smiling comes easy for me. That, along with my ability to project to people, makes everything work quite well. If I do get upset at anyone it lasts all of a few seconds, and a few minutes later I am no longer upset at the person anyway.

I can't hold a grudge. The anger builds just so far and I get all shaky and useless  to continue to confront anyway. I love most people and I love working with people. I have this positive affect on people. I am a sensitive and have been for as long as I can remember. A question one may ask themselves before getting involved in any dispute, how important is this anyway. Will they take away your birthday?

I smile a LOT more now than I used to. Before I faced the gender issues and started HRT I never smiled, not any sort of true smile anyway. If I smiled at anytime before now it was usually do to the fact that I was wasted in one way or another. Now, that smile comes much more naturally than it did before.

OK, upon reflection I would have to say that since transitioning (again) that I do tend to smile more...must have something to do with finally being happy within my own skin???

Hi Isabelle
After all the crap you have been through I must say that you deserve to experience a genuine smile now and again. That's also a good sight that what ever you are doing has been effective towards changing your life.

We all have crap to go through in life...it's just part of remaking yourself into the person you want to be...I don't think I've gone through any more crap then a lot of others here...I am just more open about everything that has gone on in my life...sometimes too open...but that's just me!

Peace and love,

Hi Isabelle
Well you are doing something positive and that is what counts. And yes I would have to say that there isn't one true Transsexual in this group or any where else that have not got through to where they are now without tribulations.  I like the way our interviewer for volunteer work defined us on our journey last night, "The walk of heroes"

I find that smiling is a language women seem to know instinctively.  They smile at one another.  If you don't it's almost a sure out.  I learned that early on when I found myself doing it without thinking.

Hi Kristi, I do so agree with you. I find no need to fake it either.
