Hello everyone! It probably goes without saying but I am brand new to this community, as well as to anything transgender-related whatsoever.

I am 26 years old, live in the northern reaches of the American south, and am attending grad school for special education for students with severe mental and/or physical disabilities. My main focus right now is my education but I do work as a non-medical caregiver for elderly adults with disabilities. I am engaged to my wonderful fiancee, with our wedding date coming up October of this year. Tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons are some of my biggest passions and I love video games, cosplaying at conventions, and am really looking forward to all the super hero movies we're getting in 2016  ;D

I am only now coming to terms with gender-identity issues that, in retrospect, I have been dealing with since I was about 10. My fiancee is recently openly bisexual and has been phenomenally supportive; once this snow clears up we'll go out shopping so I can get my own clothes and stop wearing hers.

But this is all very, very new to me and she is the only one who knows in a non-anonymous sense. I've browsed through a few posts and everyone here seems very friendly and helpful; I'm hoping to get some advice and support as I suddenly find myself confronted with a need to learn a vast array of skills I've never considered before (clothes, makeup, hair, argh-but-I-just-want-to-look-pretty :P )

Thank you for reading, I hope I can fit in and contribute to the community  :)

Welcome to Susan's Place. It sounds like found a life where you can transition comfortably with few of the issues that many of us have had to face. Yes, there will be much more to learn but you have found one of the largest web sites for transgender people and we are happy to assist you however we can. For now, don't worry about contributing as you will be busy learning. As you get farther along, what you have learned will be added to the knowledge of the community.

Thank you both!

I realize I'm exceptionally lucky in my situation and try not to take that for granted. I'm simultaneously eager and very nervous about approaching friends and family. The former largely won't mind in the least and the latter...won't disown me at the very least, at least not on my side. Either way, I'm going to wait until after the wedding because her parents will not approve (about myself or my fiancee).

And weddings have enough drama involved as it is.

Welcome to the site WW! I hope I don't refer to you that way. Yes, we talk about everything here and I've made a few life long friends here over the years. Never be afraid to ask a question. None are dumb or insignificant!

Hi Wallaby, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm in Boston. I lived in Beaver, WV for a couple years, is that near the Northern South by your estimation?  :)  See you around the site!

Hugs, Devlyn
