"We cannot stop on the way to self-perfection. As soon as you notice that you have a bigger interest in the outer world than in yourself, then you should know the world moves behind you." (Leo Tolstoy)

okay, i'm preoccupied by this quote. i have never thought of my self-absorption as "on the way" to self-perfection, more like toward a better understanding of myself.

is anyone striving for self-perfection? do You believe that everyone is, even though it's subconscious?

Yes even if it is unknowingly I believe so. That's not to say we're are all narcissistic or totally self absorbed, just maybe unknowingly looking for the "best" situation for ourselves & those who matter most to us.

While some may strive towards self-perfection I don't think everyone does.  I do not.  To me self-perfection seems like there is no room for error and that is how many people gain experiences through their lives-through trial and error.  I don't see the point of striving for self-perfection if life is chop  full of errors.  It would be like climbing an never ending mountain.  I think reaching self-actualization is the key but since many people never reach that level they are fine with being self-contempt.
