Hi Amy and welcome to Susan's.

Grandma's parents on my dad's side were from Dunmaglass (about 15 miles south of Inverness) so I consider myself mostly of Scotch ancestry...(Grandpa's parents were Scottish, Welsh, German and Danish).

Welcome and glad you found us...and more importantly are finding yourself!

Thank you everyone, I'm 44 married with kids all less than 12 and went to see my GP at end of last year as my dysphoria is really getting to me, I keep trying to go on one day at a time and it used to be that work and family were a great distraction but it no longer seems to be working and so I need to see the GIC , it seems the dysphoria is 24/7 now and I'm not sure how long I can keep going and keep everything together but will keep trying.

That's all you can do. Today's kids don't have major issues with transgender people for the most part. I would predict your kids to handle it better than others.

Hi Amy,

I'm from Scotland too.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait about a year, possibly longer to see someone at the GIC. I waited 6 months and couldn't wait any longer so have gone private. In fact I've got another appointment in the morning with my doctor. She's expensive but you get to jump the q. Let me know if you want her details.

Hi J,
I self referred to Sandyford year and a half a go, I got to the top of the list and then when phoned to confirm the appointment was told they should have told me I had to go via GP and mental health as Im from Tayside, I went into a bit of a melt down after that and just before Xmas I finally went to see GP and she said she had to refer me to Edinburgh but then a few weeks ago got letter back from them saying they are full and I had to be referred to Sandyford, I have no idea if I have to go back to the start of the queue. 
I had thought about going private to Edinburgh but as I'm married with kids I'm not quite ready to go full time and go on hormones so I don't know if there is any point. Also how easy is it to get back to the NHS if decide to transition?
