Sarah

I have always had bad acne, and since I have been on hormones, I have noticed It clearing up dramatically.

When I go off, (which I do occasionally) It comes back. Bad.

Anybody else notice this?

Actually I've not had a problem with acne myself for a long time, but changes to my skin was one of the first things that I noticed myself when I started HRT...so it's possible it's helped clear up your acne.

Do you know which ones?

I would like to avoid, as I have sensitive skin

I had bad acne when I was a teen; it turned out that it was mostly caused by being sensitive to soaps and different stuff.

As I got older, it went away. I still get some even though I'm on HRT -- actually, I get a "monthly" zit usually on my jaw line or chin. Natal women get them as well during their periods as well. I don't know if the general mtf trans population get it, however. I just know I do, and so do my roommates, and a lot of other women I've talked to.

One thing that helps is use a moisturizer with glycolic acid (I use 10% nightly, but you may want to start with a lower concentration, like 4 or 8 at most until you get used to it) and it can help clear things up and also help to heal old scars, improve the tone and texture of your skin, and the elasticity and moisture level of your skin. Most people notice a change pretty quickly, and it just continues over time. I know I've had a change in my facial skin appearance and I've had comments on it and I've been giving the tip out like mad to other women who keep asking me what I'm using. Even my psychiatrist wanted to know. (I use Neostrata, personally, although Reversa also has similar stuff and I hear it's good, too).

My acne used to come on monthly. I have had it since puberty but now I am on hormones, it hasn't come back. My skin is less greasy now, which I think may have caused the acne in the first place.

I have acne and it has cleared up a lot but not completely (mostly break out when I'm stressed). I been on hrt only for little more than 4 months. I also take progesterone and it has not bother me.  When I was lot younger would find premarin that I would scavenge or whatever. When I manage to take over 3 weeks and go off I would break out real bad.

Take care,
Anna

No, I seem to get more on HRT

I have noticed that I get less acne since HRT but I do still get a pimple or two, usually on my chin. Sometimes the electro can contribute to that I believe. Overall, I have noticed the smoother skin, but I'm taking progesterone too so I'm not sure whether E is doing anything with the acne or the P is. Someone mentioned P can cause acne so maybe the E is counteracting it. Keira would probably know :)

That's so true Natalie. I've been using a glycolic based moisturizer at night before I go to bed, then using my regular serum & moisturizer the following morning. I have freckles and they have diminished, the skin is definitely tighter. Be careful out there with glycolic acid though, don't go over 10% or you are kind of bordering on a chemical peel at 15 or 20% I think. Also, test a patch of skin on the back of your neck or something before you put it on your neck just to make sure your skin can tolerate it.

I use MDFormulations "Intense Serum" I believe. I think it's like $35 or $40 for a tube, the tube has lasted me 2-3 months but it's worth every dime. That's a really important part of my daily skin routine. Meghan
