Ms Grace

That's hilarious. And, sadly, probably true most of the time.

I think the Title really explains it best, In many cases these are not actually what people mean when they say things but are often the meaning transgender people take from them, due at least in part to people who do actually mean these things as well as general self confidence issues.

I have had several people tell me I look better as a woman then I did as a man. I know I often take that in a negitive way or assume people are just being overly nice or don't want to upset me. The truth is most of the time when people tell me that they actually think I look better. Maybe its because I seem happier and smile more, it might be because I try harder to look my best or any other little thing, perhaps for the first time my general body language and social interaction more closely matches my precived gender and thus it looks better. Regardless I know that for my own emotional well being I really need to start taking statements like that as the compliments people mean them to be not as back handed attacks.

What is a Lie when it's at home? Anyone?
Is it the depressed little voice inside? Whispering in my ear? Telling me to give up?
Well I'm not giving up. Not for that part of me that hates myself. That part wants me to wither and die. not for you. Never for you.  --Loki: Agent of Asgard

Thanks for posting this Stephanie.

I need to confess I'm not in love with this.

These things are mostly said by people who want to be allies but are not sure how. I would take any of these hands down over the opinions I see expressed on the internet and occasionally in person denying us our gender or full access. Especially "I would date a transgender person". How many people have I come across in my online dating life who would NOT date a transgender person and see nothing wrong with saying so?
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I would have titled it "How to take offense where none was intended"

We don't even know how to let people like us, they're routinely run out of town as fetishists just for showing an interest.
