I'm from the US. I wonder if my process of discovery of my gender means that from now on, I should stay completely away from supporting any groups associated with the republicans or mainstream conservatives. I have seen on this board a couple of really nasty comments about these people (which is a bit understandable). Even I always associated myself with the conservatives up to this point. I voted for Mitt Romney in 2012 because of gut.

Because of my self-discovery process, should I disassociate 100% with the republicans and conservatives, any political knowledge I was raised on? It's scary because in case I decide I want to do something like transition, it will be too late, and make life miserable for future generations. At the same time, I don't know if I can bring myself to vote for a liberal or democrat. 

I don't know what to do now, also I only have a superficial knowledge of politics and it's issues.
Nobody is willing to have a radical change on the way we look at the issues.

I considered myself Republican and right wing until around 2012.  Several thing cured me of that.

1. George Bush and his idiotic war. I'm not anti war.  I am retired Army. But his stupid policies killed American Soldiers for no good reason and destabilized the Middle East.  I know, Obama is just as bad.  They all are insane.

2. Republicans promise all sorts of things and never deliver.  So what's the point of wasting a vote on one of them.

3.  Their constant pandering to evangelicals with their Christian Dominionism fantasies.   They live In a fantasy world but they could be dangerous in power.

4.  They are yellow spined living in their invented world of fear where everyone is out to get them and a conspiracy is around every corner.

5.  Their inane free trade policies have nearly destroyed us.

6.  They are hypocrites preaching freedom while they work to restrict the freedom of others, particularly on LGBT issues.  They deliberately harm innocent people.

7.  They have gone completely insane with their claims that they have personally been chosen by God to lead the fight against us.  And there is the claim that Ted Cruz has been anointed by God to be President.

7.  And did I mention George Bush.

8.  Basically, they are nuts.


And that's my story on that.

If nothing else, it's a matter of self-preservation. Most of the Republican candidates just look at LGBT folks as scapegoats to be used in pandering to the bigotry of their ignorant base.  And they want to make transgender people the biggest punching bag of all.  Current favorite policies of Republicans are bathroom bills (aimed at dictating where transgender folks can pee) and phony "religious freedom" laws that would make it lawful for businesses to discriminate against gay and trans people.

April nailed it. I normally try to avoid such comparisons, but at this point, for trans people, voting for any Republican is rather like Jews voting for Hitler: they and their supporters would be happy to wipe us out.

The latter is something you can and should fix, if you're worried about this question. All you have to do is to be willing to spend some time reading, and questioning what you read.

Just vote for you want to vote for, regardless of their party affiliation.  Look at the issues and where they stand on them.  I've never voted solely based on party.

If you want to vote for a republican who spends a significant amount of time undermining your very existence, then go ahead.  But, really, just vote for people who actually have your best interests in mind.

The Republican party's main issue is that it has drifted away from its original principles of fiscal conservatism. I don't like how many of the Christians in this country feel they have ownership over the Republican party. I once read that Jesus is the bride of Christ, not the whore of a political party. I think that's a message that Republicans should hear.

I've leaned toward the Republicans in this election, mainly because of my fear that Democrats are going to bankrupt our country, though I will say Bush did a pretty good job of that as well.

In my career field(Education) I see on a daily basis how broken families are, & how public assistance encourages that in many ways.

Me personally, I identify more as independent. If I had to choose a democrat, I would choose Hillary. I know that Bill was more more of a centrist than a true far left liberal. Hillary presents herself as a true liberal (I believe she's more like Bill), but Bernie is actually more liberal than her.

On the Republican side, it looks like only option left is Rubio. I had hope that Fiorina would have a chance, & I also liked Carson's rages to riches example. I also liked some of the things Paul had to say, especially his criticism of the Iraq war. It looks like of the 3 candidates left standing (Trump, Rubio, Paul), that Rubio is the more willing to listen to common sense approaches candidate.

If the presidential race comes down to Bernie or Cruz (He's an Idiot), I'll vote Bloomberg (If he runs). I might vote Bloomberg regardless. Will just have to wait and see.

America is already bankrupt! Noone will say it because of our military, so that isn't a rational arguement.

Military spending is a big deal, but more than that it's the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned America about roughly 60 years ago. We have too many private companies making money off war. Pre-World War II the nations military weapons production was mostly from the government, but now private companies have taken over. These companies hire lobbyists to pay off politicians to keep the cash flow coming, even though many times they are producing non-essential weapons. These politicians justify it by saying that if they don't do it, their constituents will lose jobs. It's a failing system that produces greed and corruption.

I have hopes one day of somehow being involved to help fix things, though I must say that I fear this country is heading toward an eventual collapse.

I will say that I do agree with Bernie in that we need some type of single payer healthcare system. Obamacare has turned out to not be that good, & its driven up rates on people like myself who have insurance through their employer.

Speaking from far away - should you avoid the Republicans? Yes, like the plague!

The candidates appear to be various mixes of delusional, hateful, obsessive, narrow minded, congenital liars. OK - maybe most of those. And do they hate trans people? Ever so slightly!!!

Iowa City, Iowa (CNN)As Donald Trump and Ted Cruz battled for evangelical voters across Iowa Sunday, Cruz's star surrogate, Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson, made a forceful case to voters that the Texas senator could restore the U.S. to biblical principles and called gay marriage "evil" and "wicked."

Warming up a large crowd for Cruz in Iowa City as Trump campaigned with evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr. in Council Bluffs, Robertson argued that the country's moral core is collapsing.

The tirade against gay marriage played well in the room, but would likely raise red flags for voters who are weighing whether Cruz is the kind of GOP nominee who could attract swing voters. Robertson said Cruz was the only candidate who could restore the constitutional and biblical foundation of government.
