I have a question for all you ladies. Does hair on your head grow any faster on hrt, or does it just come in fuller? Also, I've always had a really short hair cut. What different hairstyles would you ladies recommend that I could use while transitioning, but still looking to pass as a man?

Keeping my hair short and just using a wig might be the better option, but I want to grow my hair out, at least enough that I feel more feminine.

I have a friend who is MtF trans and bald head, and she show me her hair begin to growth back slowly. It better than Rogain.

I've been growing mine now for 13 months.  I'm not sure it was growing faster or thicker on HRT as it grew pretty fast and thick already.  It might be growing a little better in the past month since I started using biotin.

I haven't cut mine at all and don't care what people think.  I am getting  addressed as ma'am more often in normal androgynous mode.  At work I just tuck it behind my ears and use some hairspray.  People there do notice and talk about it.  I just tell them I like it and am never cutting it again.  I do stick out there though since my job is with the Army and involves a lot of professional interface with other people.  But while people talk and I am noticed it hasn't caused me any problems at all.

Also, growing my hair has done as much to reduce dysphoria as HRT as I don't feel in real male mode anymore no matter what I am wearing.

I haven't noticed either. To be honest, I find my hair is thinner now since HRT.

I couldn't say for sure whether or not it does because I've only grown my hair past 2" once before about a decade ago so I don't really remember how thick or how fast it grew. What I do know is that where my hair meets my forehead, new hairs have started to grow there. SO maybe more hairs grew all over my head lol IDK

I had MUCH longer hair as a "guy" at work, was halfway down my back, always wore it in a pony tail. Add to that the fact that my facial hair was gradually lessening and that I tended to wear tight pants, designed to be worn by women at work. I just didn't care! I got some stares here and there, especially in the men's bathroom but you quickly get used to it and you brush it off. One day, the guy serving me at the cafeteria asked me when Metallica was gonna come....LOL!!!!! People love to put you in a box, we all do it. Human nature!

So I don't think you should cut it unless absolutely required by work. I refused a job offer once because they insisted I cut my long (and beautiful) hair if I wanted a job there. No way! There was no point in arguing with them, they absolutely required this for professional presentation. Screw them.

Without a picture of your face, it's hard to tell you which cut is best for you but the general guideline is a shorter cut with bangs or covering your forehead for a long face and for a more rounded face, long hair will work. You can start with something like a pixie cut and then grow it out from there. I have provided two links that will give you many cut options and it's where I figured out my current cut.

Great idea, and thank you Dena! As with the original OP, I too am in the process of growing my hair out. I've been trying to figure out what to do with it and still look presentable in male mode whilst it's in that awkward unruly stage. I've been growing it out for 8 months so far.

Anything pertaining to hair growth or hair in general didn't change that much for me on HRT. I still have male pattern baldness that I've had to fix with hair transplants and hair extensions. Hair didn't get any thicker or grow any faster.

However that is not to say there aren't other women who have had a lot of luck with HRT for hair!

What you see in my picture is about 75% of my natural hair and 25% extensions. I got microbead extensions for those who were curious---they (the hairstylist) basically tie the extensions along with your natural hair so you never have to take them out. Microbead hair extensions also make for a very natural look, as the extensions blend in with your natural hair. Very pricey though ($250-$800 depending on the salon, and you have to get it redone every 2-3 months), but so worth it for those with thinning hair like me! Microbead extensions have really boosted my confidence!

I would like to encourage women out there who haven't had success with their hair on HRT to really try out and play with extensions, crown toppers, and wigs. Lots of ciswomen wear extensions and even wigs/weaves. Honestly hair for me is just makeup---I am free to do whatever on my face and the same applies to hair. If I am feeling a voluminous hair day, I will pack on the extensions!

Well, Adchop, if you go on HRT your hair is probably going to gradually look more feminine no matter what length it is, unless you've experienced some serious hair loss. Lots of women wear short hair. I'd suggest you just start the grow out immediately and you may be fine. It's not easy to wear a wig that really looks as convincing as real hair. Nothing beats natural hair if you've got it.

Geez, Roni. It's impossible to imagine that beautiful young woman in your profile pic with male pattern baldness. Whatever you're doing is working really well. My hair is thinning on top and has lost a lot of volume and I'm planning to try the combination of a topper and a halo loop, which should do for me. The only hassle is I want to go with varied highlights and matching's going to be tricky.

My hair is fine via the follicles but thick in density. Born curly, changed to straight as I grew up. Male pattern baldness via the M hairline.

Reversed the male pattern baldness about 80 percent of the way, maybe even 85. Hair began to grow at an extremely rapid rate. Spironolactone also made my hair dry. Finasteride helped hair growth immensely as well.
New growth also caused a lot of frizz and fly aways until about a year after I began HRT.
The curl pattern came back on the temples of my head and the nape area below the occipital bone.

Side note: Post orchiectomy my hair has been growing way faster than typical. Since October I have cut off 6 inches of hair (near clavicle) now it is touching my nipple area. Also I have a lot, A LOT more new growth post orchi, reversing hair loss even more.
