Facebook gender options only M or F?

My SO was trying to enter their gender as non binary into their new Facebook account, however only Male and Female options were available.

Anyone know if this is an actual bug or something Facebook has removed, or an individual issue?

The gender options which appear when I click "edit" are male, female, and custom. I assume the last allows a person to put whatever they want. I'm in the US -- I suppose it might be different in other countries...

Tried with VPN (US) and still only Male and Female in the drop down, could be a personal thing.

Just wondering, was this when your SO signed up, or once they'd created their account? It looks like Facebook still makes you pick 'either or' when you first sign up :-\ ... however, you should be able to go in and change it once the account is created.

P.S. The gender neutral options work with English (UK) now too, as well as English (US) :)

There should be a custom option once you create the account in the drop down menu. Hugs

Yeah, that was it. They were just signing up and the only options were male and female, we managed to get it sorted now. Thanks for the input btw :)

Seems weird you have sign up with a binary option in order to access the non binary.

Agreed - it's something I'll message Facebook about. It took us a while to work out what was going on, and was quite distressing for them.

Yes, yes it does. But it's probably just F'book's sneaky way of amassing yet more personal information on us.

Interesting information.  Does changing your gender affect existing relationships?  If I change my gender to "female" or more likely to "custom" will it affect my son having listed me as his "father"?  I'm not really sure I'm quite ready for my siblings to see that I'm now listed as their "sister".   :o
