For my birthday, I got two great gifts!!  I start electrolysis next Wednesday, and I have my first consultation for my mammoplasty March 8.  I started transistioning October 21, 2014 while I was in the hospital for AIDS- related complications.  But now for over a years I've been living as a woman while on hormones.  So, to get heart of the matter,  I would like some information--  anything-- to help me thru.  I am older, 47, but that shouldn't matter.  So, if there's anyone who would like to help me with this pivotal moment in my transistioning, I would gladly appreciate it.  Thanks everyone.  Much Love, Steph

So you're having implants? Do you need to know what to ask, etc?

Yes,  I do need some help.  I want to make sure that my implants will be proportional to my body.  So, since i'm  ~5' 5" and weigh ~ 120lbs. I am also 47y/o.   The circumference of my torso is 36'.  I am thinking about getting 36c's.  Ya think that's the right proportion?  Bigger or smaller?  I have no clue.  But, in my opinion, I think 36c is the best way for me to go.

My opinion is C for your size would be a good choice. Smaller would be safe but then you wouldn't be seeking surgery. Larger would require less sexy bras to offer proper support and you might find you need to wear a bra almost all your waking hours. In addition, larger size breast might make it more difficult to find clothes that fit you correctly.

I would suggest you buy a bra of the proper size and stuff the cups so you can see if you like the look. That would allow you to test drive before you buy.

Boobs are wonderful things, and once you have them, you wonder how it was ever possible to have lived without them.

But, as you reach a certain age (which you have already passed), bras switch from being a playful and sexy accessory and develop a true functionality.  Pretty or not, you need something to hold them up.  And in the larger sizes, pretty becomes harder to find unless you think it normal to drop E150 on a bra.

The mean size for European cis-females is between a B and C cup.  We trans usually like to exceed that norm by at least a little.  So I agree with Dena that to aim for 36C is both reasonable and attainable without having you look like a freak.  The idea is to please the eye of the beholder, but not cause the beholder to to take a second look.  You want to be ordinary (if maybe on the prettier side of normal.)  You want to pass, not shock and engender heart attacks in older men.

Not all boobs are created equal, but anyone with boobs is clearly better than anyone without boobs.  Use that to your advantage -- and as you age you will need that advantage.

C cup is a great goal when you want to look natural.

D cup is a great goal when you have your surgery and 2 months later you go, "I wish I had gone bigger than a C cup".

5'5 and 120 is so petite (jealous!), a C cup for such a small frame is honestly more than likely plenty, but as I have stated before in other threads... any surgeon will tell you the #1 complaint following a BA is patients wishing they had gone a bit bigger when they wanted a natural look.

I also have a 36' torso and C cups do look good..

for me.. I was really blessed by HRT, as I have natural D cup (no surgery), but genetics played a role, as all the women in my family are DD and DDD. My D's don't look overly too big, they suit me well, but I also inherited my family bum, which is of the larger type (my mother calls them child bearing hips).. pity I cant fall pregnant.

From pictures of my mother at my age (I am 27, started hrt at 21), i could almost be her twin as we have the same body type.. (bigger breast and a big bum).

  Thanks y'all for your insight.  I know it's been a while since I've been here so forgive me my delinquency.  Yesterday, March 8, I got my date for my mammoplasty.  Since then I have been unable to stop smiling !!!  The past 36 hours  have been the bomb.  Both me and my doctor agree that I should get 35c and a tad bit extra.  I'm 47.  I don't wanna look like Dolly Parton, just me. 

  Even though I'm still wheelchair bound, I have been making strides... Literally.  I can now walk with an elevated shoe and a cane for about a quarter of a mile.  I haven't walked that far at one time since 2011.  Also, I'm back in school.  At San Francisco Community College I am in the process of getting an AA in LGBT studies which I hope to transfer to UCSD and continue my studies there.
