Hi girls I'm just so excited that I picked up my first prescription for spiro and estradiol .I am so happy and scared as hell. This is really happening.  I want the changes but sometimes I will still miss the old me, it's been with me for 60 years. I know it never served me well it's just so hard to let go sometimes. I go public about 80 percent of the time but sometimes fear and anxiety take over. I have an awesome Dr. and therapist who are both gently pushing me towards full-time as they both believe it's the best path for me. Am I feeling normal for a trans woman? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for being there.

Excitement, scared, happy, anxiety... all sounds pretty common to me. Congrats!

There is nothing wrong with what you are feeling and the old you will still be there to call on. The differences is that the pain the old you felt will be missing. I am still the same person I always was except that I no longer hurt and am happy much of the time.

Hi Steph,

First of all, congratulations on taking these first steps.  There is nothing to be afraid of.  Your "old me" will not disappear any more than the first chapter of a book disappears when you read the last.  It is all part of your story. It's how you got to where you are now.

People can get used to anything - deprivation, abuse, longing - because that's what we do to survive. But when the cage to your prison door opens, you should think of what you are gaining, not what you are leaving behind.  The fact that you are already presenting as female in public should make it that much easier.

You will be fine.  You will be better than fine.  You will blossom.

With kindness,

Terri

Congrats on taking this big step along your path! All the feelings are part of the journey! For me it is like riding a roller coaster with all the emotional ups and downs. I found that the path levels out after a while and becomes more stable. Be patient. Changes will happen, but can take time. We all are different and some happen quicker than others. Lots depend on age and genetics.
