Hello i am sophia. I was wondering if i should take hormones or not. My therepist asked me if i was wanting to take hormones and I have been thinking about it a lot and i did my resarch about hormones. I want to take hormone but I'm afraid and worried about if it's a good idea.

I hope this is the place to ask because i really need help deciding.

Hi Sophia, and welcome to Susan's. It comes down to you and how you feel about it. For me it was a no brainer, but for others it takes a lot more thought. Some of what you may want to look at is what are you future plans in regards to work, school, family, and friends  and the importance of this step. Yet in the end it comes down to you and you alone. What worries you about it Sophia? It might help us more so we can help you knowing that. Good luck and Hugs
Mariah

I'm worried about mostly that if i do if anyone would notice quickly. I haven't really opened up to anyone but my mom and thereipist and a few others. I want to try and see if hormones work for me bit i don't want people to see any big differences with me. I am also worried that if i go in and try to get hormones that they won't let me have hormones. I have been wanting to transition for a very long time but never had the courage to try but now i feel like I'm gain courage over time. I'm just having bad thoughts about people finding out and making fun off me or being rude about it.

Ps: I'm MTF

You can always start with low dose HRT and you'll find out if you like them before you get any major physical changes.

Chances are you'll like it so much you can't stop. I found its a one way street, even if I am trying to go as slowly as possible.

Changes do take time generally and as AnonyMs stated you could ask to start on low dose which gives you more time. Hugs

Ms Grace

Hi Sophia, welcome to the site. Sorry, but that is a question you must answer for yourself. If you are worried about people noticing they will probably see that something is happening after 6-12 or 18 months but are unlikely to join the dots that you are on HRT. The slow process of feminisation through HRT gives you time to sort out how to deal with being out and about.

I think i might see if i can get a low dose like all of you stated and see how i feel while I'm on it. I just hope that I'm able to with a kidney problem i have and i know it was eaither hormones or something else that you couldn't have some types of kinday problems but i should ask a doctor about that.

Thank you for the advice

HRT for MTFs acts slow and for a long time people will just think you look younger. For some like me hair and makeup needed to be added to the mix to feminize my appearance.

As for people making fun of you. I can't promise you it won't happen but I am post surgical 33 years and in all that time nobody has  treated me with disrespect.  Our fear is often far worst that reality and people are far kinder than we think. It will take month for HRT to change much so people will have time to get used to the changes. The odds are that your hair will grow out faster that the hormones will alter your appearance.
