I'm really getting desperate here. The mere prospect of it being permanent makes me feel like committing suicide.

The facial stubble around my lip is annoying and bothersome to look at. After searching Google for a solution, I read somewhere that buffing it off with sandpaper will do the trick. I tried that but with 1000 grit sandpaper. Last night when I tried it, I did it too roughly and left an abrasion on the side of my face and I can still feel the burn. Maybe I should've used 600grit or something.

Anyway, I'm tired of having to use makeup to hide it, ad's I'm afraid to even set foot near a laser machine any time soon.

the higher the grit number the finer the grit is, 600 would do worse than 1000. I would not try sandpaper myself and Ive lived a life near that stuff daily. As you found it burns you in a way, do not try magic eraser either... it burns worse

Im guessing you mean the blue shadow from the stubble as Im guessing you get close shaves?

Im dealing with this myself and cannot get laser at this point. Yesterday I tried sally hansen extra strength cream bleach. I did it on 2 day growth to give it something to latch onto. I did 8 minutes, then reapplied for 5 as directed.

although it didnt bleach it completely, when I washed it looked more like the 18 hour shadow with some spots even appearing nearly bare. I shaved and it looked pretty good, easier to cover with foundation without getting heavy. I think I can tweak the timing and get better results. Id like it to soak into the hair shaft a bit so i can get a couple clear days. Ive read that works for some people. Im easily irritated with sensitive skin and it didnt hurt me...but be careful.

Sandpaper!  Honey, that is a terrible idea.  As you found out, all that will do is abrade your skin and possibly leave grit embedded in your epidermis or dermis, inviting infection and permanent skin damage.

There are only two options for facial hair removal: laser or electrolysis.  May I ask why you are so averse to trying laser? From what you say, the prospect of keeping your facial hair is worse.

Edit: In response to the bleaching of beard shadow, again there is only one real solution: removal of the melanin-producing cells.  Bleaching would seem to be a poor solution.  It has to penetrate the skin, or get well into the follicles.

I wont dispute the only way to get rid of the hair

Im only offering a band aid as Ive been trying different things to lessen the effect it has on me. This morning I woke up and didnt feel the need to cover my face in thick foundation.... to me, thats a baby win and worth the 6 dollars I spent on bleach

I havent decided to get laser or if I can afford it at this point....

Yeah but will it permanently remove your stubble? And by "18 hour shadow" do you mean it got darker?

In case it matters, I'm Black so my hair is naturally darker so I predict that the darker hair will be an even bigger pain in the butt to get rid of.

I did say in the OP that after a frantic Google search on how to remove stubble, buffing it away came up as a possible solution with a sandpaper-like surface so I decided to try it.

As for laser, number one: I don't have the money at the moment and two: I did it once and it was incredibly painful so I switched to electrolysis. Only good news is the hair isn't growing back as persistently and at a much slower rate. I used to shave only for it to grow right back within 3 days at the latest.

Exfoliating is key to minimizing stubble/shadow but not with sandpaper  like use an abrasive hand towel instead. Exfoliate before and after you shave while taking a super hot shower.

Sorry, what I meant is rather than it looking like I didnt shave for 50 hours it looked more like the next morning. This was after washing the bleach off. So to me that was less blue look. After i shaved it was even better than any close shave I ever got. Now of course it will come back.... its just nice to wake up to a reduction in blue haze... and for that Ill do 6 bucks occasionaly... like before a outing or having a few days where I know Im feeling great... thats all
