How did you pay for surgery? I'm not made of money and you're probably not either. I always have wondered how everyone pays for their surgeries, whether its FFS, SRS/GRS, Top Surgery for the guys or Breast Augment for the girls.

I paid for top surgery with a credit card and a cash gift from my parents after they heard I was paying for it with credit. I didn't have trans inclusive healthcare coverage at the time.

My hysterectomy and bottom surgery are being paid for by insurance. Any out of pocket expenses will be going on a credit card and mostly paid with via my tax return.

I paid for top surgery by working 3 jobs. My goal was to have top surgery before one year on t. Goal completed. I'm 6 months post op.

You worked 3 jobs at once? What jobs were they?

Claims consultant for a collision shop (day job), security for a dealer (nights), dispatcher for a tow company (weekends).

Sounds great I don't think I could pull all that off though.

SRS with insurance and Flexible Spending Account (FSA). I paid for preoperative electrolysis out of pocket and then any surgical fees and deposits were paid with my FSA. I ended up spending around $5,000 out of pocket and with my FSA and insurance covered the rest. I have Cigna through my employer and live in California.

It wasn't easy but my hard work paid off, I was saving As much as I could. In the end I reached my goal. I'm back to one. No need to overwork myself right now.
