I'm going through a sneeze and coughing attack right now. I think I got the sneeze to sound feminine at the tail end of it, but the cough I can't do anything with and its quite annoying in public.

Sneeze yes. Cough not so much. Even worse, after a cold my voice usually drops ten octaves.

coughing is really hard, you just can't control the tail end of it or any of it

i never heard of someone having a pretty cough LOL. i mean when im sick and coughing i just sound like a 2nd rate miley cyrus. no one has ever questioned any of my cough or sneezes though. but my mom has the most HILARIOUS sneezes ever. too bad i didn't get it to sound like that, it just kills my stomach every time. i should record it as my ringtone one of these days kekekekse.

Yep. I typically have fairly cute sneezes, lol. But it's the same as changing my voice, it takes time, effort, and practice. And actually takes slightly more control and conscious effort than just talking. If it happens more suddenly or if I don't really try to control it, then it's the same as with my voice if I don't try; it ends up being lower and more masculine.

yeah, not sure if you are doing yourself any favours by making coughing even more bothersome by making it feminine, but better than outing yourself imo
I will touch a 100 flowers and not pick one.

sitting in a crowded room and having a wonderful time then this uncontrollable hideously masculine thing domes out of your mouth.

Yep I can, it's nice being able to do it without thinking.

I am able sneeze female without issue but the cough is sometimes allusive. Hugs

I've been taking voice lessons and of course we work on both the sneeze and cough. If you know how to use your resonance above the throat when you speak then both the cough and sneeze is easy ......just a matter of practice

Nope can't cough or sneeze with and sorta feminine thing, then again my voice is awful and I am terrible at practicing things I am bad at, some days I just don't care and or don't feel it's that bad in general, other days I hate it and myself with a passion, it's a process.

So in short no I can't.

Is it the depressed little voice inside? Whispering in my ear? Telling me to give up?

Yes, to a degree. Actually, I took a lot of crap for having a girly sneeze back when I was a guy. Coughing is still pretty raspy, but I've noticed that that just makes the cough sound *worse* - even cis women with a really bad cough will sound deep and rasping, so people assume I'm a lot sicker than I am when I have a fairly mild cough, but it doesn't out me. (I was lucky that I had a light tenor voice to start with, though.)

A trick I've picked up is to curl your lips into a little bit of a smile as you cough or sneeze.  For some reason, this makes both coughs and sneezes sound more feminine!

Learning to project coughs from your head is not always feasible, because when you cough, you are technically trying to clear gunk from further down.  I think projecting coughs from your head (while potentially effective voice-wise) would not actually help you do what your body needs to do when you cough.

Yes, takes lots of practice but becomes second nature. I don't think it gives you away as much as you would think though.

My sneezes are that of a shotgun blasting. Its a full body experience, and quite honestly I dont need to change it, for that has always been how I sneezed. Coughs are just that, a cough, there is no gendered portion there for it. But there may be any justification to try and put some feminine voice to it, would be challenging, but would technically have to practice.

I've heard too many sneezes, and cannot correlate gender to each and every one of them. A high school friend of mine sounded like he would say horses every time he sneezed, or those super high pitched mousey sneezes, from the burliest of men that I've known, or similar to my own shotgun blasting sneezes from many others.

Dare I say to cough and sneeze to your hearts content.

I sing baritone, so I've largely given up on my voice.  Given the choice between an unproductive cough, and a cough which engages the bass notes in my voice... not being stealth is a luxury at times like this.

I can sneeze through my nose, which sounds pretty feminine, but it can make a huge mess.  No thanks.

Now after vfs I sound female even when coughing or sneezing. At least that is what my boyfriend is saying. And he do not wants that someone knows about my past. So  a 100% passing is important for him.

When I feel a sneeze coming on, I pinch my nose shut. That sometimes works. When I cough, I always cover my mouth and try to restrict the deep bellow. That sometimes works. There are times though, nothing works and it just blasts out. So life is.

Fantastic question. I wish I had the answer!!!  I will take a stab at the sneeze though. If you take your lower lip and cover your upper lip with it, the urge to sneeze will disappear. Or you will blow your brains through your ears. :)  ( I maybe don't have enough brain for that to happen.) Try it, it works.  On the cough, I try to take in less air before coughing so at least the volume is less. Not really an answer I'm afraid!

Ugh I hate that... I went through it with my last boyfriend. As if we're not under enough stress on our own... >_<
