Hi ,

This is my question :

Is this correct that because of XX genotype in our body , HRT is dangerous for us ?

I heard sth like HRT is dangerous for our bodies , specially our brains because of Our XX genotype

And HRT cause an auto-immune illness & make our brains self-destruction or sth like that

I don't remember the source , but I'm worry about it

Do you hear anything about it ?

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

Your chromosomes do absolutely nothing aside from carrying the genes to make the gonads differentiate. That's it. The entire rest of sexual differentiation is just hormones, and these hormones frankly don't care what chromosomes you have, testosterone/DHT will still make someone "male" and lack of such will still make someone "female" regardless of chromosomes.

Whoever told you that having XX chromosomes makes testosterone somehow be a risk factor is just a concern troll that's operating on old sexist notions about AFAB people somehow being fragile or delicate.

In reality, there are people who are male in every regard, including gonads, secondary sexual characteristics, genitals, everything, who have XX chromosomes. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XX_male_syndrome ) And aside from being infertile, they are completely 100% identical to any guy, with normal levels of hormones, normal life expectancy, and no adverse health effects. They usually don't even ever learn they have a chromosomal issue, going through their entire lives just assuming that they're average guys with XY chromosomes, until they can't conceive children in adulthood.

So yeah... the notion that somehow chromosomes have anything to do with testosterone is basically pseudo-medical bunk mostly based on oppositional sexism.

Thanks

I told your answer to my friend and he replied :

I totally disagree. Let's come back to the first 3 months of your developing in your mother womb. At that time you were a bunch of cells that your genes were starting to express and make you a human. Based on what kind of genes were expressing you became a man or a woman. After gene expressing and finishing the body instruction process, there was no way to come back to the previous step ,obviously. HRT in fact forces your body to come back to the developing process and this is the exact thing that I was talking about. I don't have much time time now to explain it now remind me if you want more information about my theory

Your XX chromosomes have very little to do with the live activity of the human body.  They just establish the base blueprints.  That's all.  So no, T will not harm you for chromosomal reasons.  It will become dangerous if you aren't monitoring hormone levels however.  That's why you go to an endocrinologist about it.

Your friend's "theory"? Does your friend have any credentials to have the right to a theory? If they do it's still irresponsible to give you an absolute " this is dangerous" based upon an untested theory.
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

I told your answers to my friend ,
Plus , i told him NOTHING can return us to first 3 months of our development in mother's womb

So with HRT , we can't be like a man developed in mother's womb

But we do it to match our bodies to our brains

However we can't develop a perfect penis

But this , is much more better than being trans

I'm waiting for his answer

Thank y'all

Good response to your friend. You probably won't change his mind, but at least you are clear now that he's spouting nonsense.  Sexual differentiation has far more to do with hormones than it does with genes.

Here's a recent review article which concludes that the greatest risk of HRT in trans men is polycythemia, which is very easily controlled. The study found no changes in rates of cancer or cardiovascular disease compared to cis controls.

Given the suicide rate among trans people I'd say not treating it far more dangerous, and HRT is THE treatment.

I am a MTF post surgical 33 years with a normal male XY and have been on estrogen even longer and haven't had any issues. I know a FTM who has been on T even longer and he hasn't had issues either. Top it off with the fact that males produce estrogen and females produce T so all of us have some exposure to both hormones. Your friend has a theory that is easy shot down.

If they won't listen to developmental embryology science and want to create their own bunk theories about why it's dangerous, then show them actual study-based science tracking actual risk factors for health problems in transgender men on testosterone:

Here's a bunch of them:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25790747 (Blood pressure in transgender men remains the same after 2 years of T treatment, lipid profile does slightly worsen but it still remained within the "normal" range.)

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3720111/ (Study shows that even though T treatment does slightly deteriorate cardiovascular lipid profile in transgender men, no studies have shown an increased rate of mortality/morbidity. Average length of time on T in this study was 18 years, so this is a pretty long-term study.)

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17986639 (Shows no increased risk of morbidity or mortality compared to control groups, in a study of 876 transgender men on testosterone treatment, following trans people from years as far back as 1975.)

I can link more if you need more. Or better yet, here's EVERY single study on HRT that I've got to share. There's like 140 of them.

I agree with y'all
I studied more about transitioning and HRT side Effects and I'm sure HRT doesn't have any dangerous effect for us
But one of my friends who is FTM too and biology student , told me i'll never go to HRT because it has bad effects

I'd heard sth like brain auto-destruction before

So I wanna be completely sure about it

Thank y'all for your good responses
