Hi all,

So although I'm now in my mid-20s, I still have a bit of a problem with acne. Nothing severe, but definitely something I'd rather not have, particularly mid/post-transition!
I was just wondering if anyeone knows if this is likely to be reduced much/entirely cleared up during HRT?
Peace and love ^-^ x

Yes, very likely as birth control pills containing estrogen and an anti-androgen related to spironolactone or cyproterone acetate are effective treatments in ciswomen who have acne. Why? Because androgen increases sebum production, hence contributing to acne. Estrogen does the exact opposite, it reduces sebum (oil) production AND anti-androgens inhibit androgens, hence further reducing sebum production.

I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004

This is a great explanation.  All the way 10/10 ❤

Also, I'm pre HRT, in my teen years, but I still manage to say pretty clear.  I use lavender witch hazel on my face (and sometimes some other oil, all depends).  Read up about that if you want :)

Most likely it'll go away, yep.  Every trans person I know on spiro lost their acne.

My acne has actually gone back up slightly as I've gone cold turkey on spiro since my srs a few months ago...lol go figure!

Wow, didn't expect such a detailed answer! Thank you! :)
I'm feeling pretty positive judging from all your responses so thanks one and all :)
