Went to my GP today and came out as trans.  She refused to refer me to a GIC as "you don't really know you're really trans as it hasn't been diagnosed, so I can't refer you.  You're moving in a few months so you should just do it then".  So an extra 4 months on top of an already year long waiting list and I'm 54 in 5 days time!  Soooo frustrating, I didn't expect to be easy but point blank refused I did not expect!
Don't really know what to do from here. Any suggestions? 

Sounds like you need a new GP - if she is being obviously transphobic you should be able to complain, if you're in the UK the NHS have a fairly good policy regarding discrimination, even though not all centers follow guidelines.

Again, I'm not sure what it is like where you are, but you may be able to self refer to a gender clinic and explain that your GP is unsupportive and is refusing to refer you.

Good luck in finding a way around it - things should work out eventually.

For fastest results I'd say ask to see a different GP at your surgery. There's usually more than 1 available.

In some cases you can directly contact your local GIC and ask to be put on the list, bypassing the GP referral. Not sure which clinics do that. Phone your nearest?

Being referred for gid treatment is an entitlement. Since she refused to follow the referral procedure, she is breaching both the guidelines and the law. You need to make a formal complaint in writing hun.

The words from my therapist nearly 35 years ago. This is a condition that is self diagnosed and his job was to verify that there were no other factors to interfere with our judgement. Your GP hasn't a clue how things work and needs an education or you need another doctor.
