I know some like to tread their own path but so far the best thing for me has been to meet in person some amazing and inspirational women who are at lots of different stages of their own personal journey.
Recently I attended a meetup organised via
http://www.meetup.com/Sydneys-Transgender-Friendship/

This is a large group (250 screened members) for trans and gender queer to just get together at low key social functions (usually 8-10 attendees) mostly which is a beer down the pub in Newtown. Partners and friends are welcome but not ->-bleeped-<-s and there are no expectations on appearance or presentation. Just an opportunity to make friends and share some time together.

I would also encourage SydneySiders to use this meetup group as well if they want to organise their own social events as I am sure the group admins will be happy to include. After all this is a causal group and relies on members to make it what it is.

Hugs to all
Jamie

Thanks for the info, Jamie; it would be great to meet some other girls who are, or have, transitioned. I've joined up, although not sure how often I will be able to get to meet ups as I live a bit out of town.

Ms Grace

Sounds good Jamie. How would you describe the meet up you went to?

The meetup I attended was around 8 people with some regulars , myself as a newbie a girl returning after not going for 6 months and was a bit of a special one with some people back from surgery in Thailand and one person ready to head off which made for some interesting conversation.  Meetup was from 12pm and broke up around 3pm and was drinks in the beer garden and lunch. This is a regular venue close to the train station and all the staff there are super friendly and Newtown is a very boho / diverse area.

Was good fun and a good excuse to dress up and get out of the house :)

I wish I could join you, but I'm a bit too paranoid. Hopefully one day.

I know that feeling and I couldn't even join Susans until 3 months hrt and out to my wife dye to massive anxiety issues. If you ever do feel like meeting up in Sydney but feel the group is too much feel free to pm me and we can grab a coffee or beer somewhere quiet.

Thanks, but it probably won't be any time soon.

I'm also building myself up to attend a meetup one of these days. Either this or at the Gender Centre. Question: the page says "This group is closed to new members", is that just because of the approval process?

Just give it a few days and try again. The main organiser is offline for a few days and meetup needs to fix the group settings. There is a meetup this 12pm Saturday so sign up for the details.

Hi Grace, AnonyMs, Dana, Amoeba, Laura, Katrina, Jenny, Roxie (and any other Sydney-siders!),

Jamie and I are thinking about heading to Neutral Bay for a one-off casual dinner this Friday night.

Let me know if you would like to join us, and I'll PM the details to you (right after I figure out how).

Claire.

Hi Claire

Unfortunately I can't do this Friday, but certainly looking forward to meeting a few of you on Saturday.

I'd love to, but I can't bring myself to do it. Hopefully that will change before too much longer, I've missed enough life already.
  •

Claire_Sydney

I totally get it AnonyMs, I'd just hate to leave you off the invite !

Omigosh, thanks so much for the invite Claire. It still feels like it's soon, but I'd love to join in. Would you folks mind overmuch if I'm still in boy mode, and pretty much sporting a constant stubble for the benefit of my electrologist? :embarrassed:

Claire_Sydney

Totally. Wear whatever you like! Go by whatever name makes you most comfortable.

I'll send you the details.

I'd love to come along, but I have a ridiculously early getting up on Saturday so it's not really a goer. I'm sure there'll be more opportunities!  :)

Dinner last night organised by Claire_Sydney was fantastic and we will probably try to make it a regular thing and will drop invites in this forum.

Had another great meetup today with a another great group down in Newtown. Couple of drinks lunch and fantastic conversation.

Meetups happen every few weeks and are strictly come as and how you feel comfortable. It is a quiet pub but easy to get to from Newtown train station and parking can usually be found in the surrounding streets as well.

If you want to meet some friendly people in a comfortable social setting have a look at this page and join us sometime.
