I was a dedicated reader, that was until you and the other influential gay elites endorsed the hateful position of dividing the GLBT community by supporting the removal of protections for the transgender from the ENDA, something I think you realistically know will prevent transgender individuals from ever being protected under the civil rights laws of the United States from the rampant discrimination they routinely face. Until recently I also fully supported full marriage rights for the GLBT community, something I find I am no longer able to motivate myself to do. Why should I fight for your rights, when you and other gay elites have shown yourself as unwilling to fight for mine.

The transgender community has been behind the GLBT movement for civil rights from the beginning going all the way back to before Compton's Cafeteria and the Stonewall riots, Many well off transsexuals have come out both with their good name, and the cash to back it to help fund the Gay rights movement like Reed Erickson with his support of one of the first GLBT rights organizations, One Inc. This is but one example. You can of course dismiss this all in a instant with your blind self interest. We are not late comers to the civil rights table as you have so blithely claimed

Anyway back to the point, stop with the trans-bashing because the next time I see you do so, I am going to start a boycott. While you might think this is a small threat, I can easily reach 50,000 people per month, over 5 million per year through my community support web site, many of them are also progressive activists, who likely read your blog.  My boycott might not kill your site, but it will hurt you where it counts in the wallet. The progressive community has used this tactic successfully in the past to change the behavior of the hateful right wingers, you are not immune to the same when you cross the line, as you have repeatedly done.

Your approach makes sense.  You have a wonderful pulpit here, Susan, and it has been around for some time, so I can imagine your contacts are like the tendrils of a tree that go all over the place.

I believe that Pam's House Blend is a supportive GLB and T blog.  Have a look and see if you agree.  In something the size of this undertaking, to get our rights and our persons protected under the law, allies are a key factor.  I would be willing to contribute toward advertising that highlights the backstabbing by HRC and others, especially Barney Frank; something about how the Speaker of the House turned into the "Squeaker of the House" in this matter, and how openly Lesbian Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin stood by an all-inclusive ENDA.

You have the hammer, Susan.  Use it for all it's worth.

Hear, hear.  I've done a little bit of battling myself in the Americablog forums on the ENDA topic, and some people just refuse to see past their own needs.  Shame on Aravosis.

It was a big mistake for the T.G. community to support the gay community as the gay community does not and never will support the T.G. community.

I don't know anything about the "TG community," but I personally sure as hell work for gay rights because it's just the right thing to do. I belong to lesbian communities, for one thing.

some in the gay community are rude to Trans people, but i think the majority of them do have empathy for us. and some of them are just downright sweethearts. please don't bash them as an entire group.

No one would dispute that human rights should be extended to us all regardless of sexual orientation, gender or otherwise, but is a movement primarily championed by those fighting against prejudice by sexual orientation the best platform for Transgender rights? 
Does it even begin to address the issues that the Transgender community faces?

Still, I'll support a boycott if thats what it takes. Go Susan!
