I've been wanting to get myself an electric breast pump (nursing type obviously) to start milk production and get my breasts to become fully functional to help with size and/or their development (4 years hrt, 28 years old).

Anyone have experience with this and able to tell me about how long it takes to start it up and the permanent results after stopping when doing it for a long time?

I don't think prolactin alone without estrogen and/or progesterone will do much for breast growth and development. Estrogen alone is quite effective for that purpose as it also increases prolactin levels naturally and increases the body's sensitivity to progesterone which also contributes to breast development, which if added, could further help.

you need to take medication to start milk production, I tried it about 3 years back. I actually managed express milk using a breast pump (about half the amount a cis-woman would express). It take time for the amount to build up, i remember the first time I tried, i only got a few drops.

It helped mature my breasts. I used a double electric breast pump, so i could do both breasts at once and extraction with a pump can make your breasts tender.

I extracted for about 6 months, twice a day. Then I took a pill to dry up the milk.
Enjoying ride the hormones are giving me... finally becoming the woman I always knew I was

I've already been on HRT for a nearly 4 years.

Since switching to E by intramuscular injection, my prolactin levels have significantly increased to above 100 ng/ml. I'm under doctors' supervision and they aren't concerned. If it were not for my progesterone which inhibits milk production, I would probably lactate. So...E by IM under a doctor's supervision and consent could just prove as useful.

I've started this process. I'm 4 years hrt except I've been on P since I started. I noticed you mentioned only E & spiro so idk if you'll be successful with E alone. P is crucial for the milk glands to develop. Anyways the trick to trigger lactation from everything I've read is that you need to be on P consistently for at least 6months, have a consistent breast massage schedule (every 4hrs for about 15-20min) using your hands or a pump, you can even use a tens machine. Then you cut off the P completely, which will trick the body into thinking it's preggers and milk should start to come in gradually.

The reason why milk starts to come out when P drops is because P inhibits lactation so that it doesn't happen during pregnancy when it's not needed and instead, accumulates in the milk glands stimulated by P. When baby needs it, then P drops. Milk is especially prone to come out under nipple suckling as this stimulates the release of oxytocin which induces milk letdown due to muscle contraction.

Lots of useful scientific info - thanx.  If no one said their breast shape/size changed, I guess that means it not much help - but still fun.  Since I have become aware of trans issues, I have notice a big difference in my own breast size.  Over the heart is much bigger than the other.  I know the adult star Vaniity had/has the same problem.
