I have a few questions regarding HRT and breast growth. I'm non-binary, born male though I identify more towards the femmenine side of the scale. I'll be seeing a therapist soon and I hope to get on HRT.

From what I've read, I'm quiet happy with all the effects of femenising hormones (both physical and psychological) and if given the chance I would definitely choose to start taking hormones.

However, I have some hang ups regarding breast growth. On one hand, I would like some breast growth because I'm pretty flat even for a male, but I don't really want large breasts. Something like an AA or A cup would be ideal, as I would like to maintain a mildy androgynous appearance.

Anyway, my question is what amount of breast growth could I expect on a full femenising HRT regimen (I'm 24, and quiet thin)? Is it possible to limit breast growth by taking lower doses of estrogen? Also, if my breasts did grow larger than desired,couldn't I just easily get breast reduction surgery to bring them down to a desirable size (cost of surgery isn't really a concern)?

I've been quiet confused and annoyed lately because as I mentioned, I really want all the other effects of hrt, and if it wasn't for this one thing I think I would identify as a trans woman, but the fact that I want everything but breasts kinda complicates things for me...

Welcome to Susan's Place. Breast growth is completely unpredictable I wouldn't mind bigger breast as I am 6'2" but after many years of HRT I never developed much beyond a A cup. Other girls on the site are approaching D cup in a little over a year. Blockers with low dose will slow the process somewhat but anything can happen.

A therapist will help you short though your options but you should be prepared for the possibility of male fail. That's something some of us have that after starting hormones, we move all the way toward a feminine appearance and have a problem passing as a male. For many of us, hormones aren't that effective but you need to plan for the unexpected when hormones are involved.

Hi, welcome to the site. Breast growth from HRT cannot be custom tailored. I know of some women on very low dose HRT with large breasts, and of those on full dose for years with little more than AA. It really is down to your biology and genetics.

The only way to "maybe" minimize it is to maintain a low body fat level through diet and exercise.  However, the glandular structures will still develop and if you ever gain weight later while still on HRT they will get larger quickly (to the point they would have grown to anyway).

I agree with what others said and I want to add something. When I was allowed HRT I originally requested low dose I was afraid my breasts would out me before I was ready . When the doctor was making the scripts up he asked again and I said transition dose. it is what I wanted.

My fear was my breasts would out me. My Mom was a DD and my sister is a D. I thought I would be a C. I am an A and still slowly growing but very slowly. This November I have GCS and a BA scheduled. I want a full C. When I fully accepted myself and went full time I realized the fear about having full breasts was gone and a desire to be proportionate was there. 

A guy friend at work today noticed and commented today about how I am developing, as he looked at my chest. It felt good and I smiled. He is like a brother to me and we have 6 am coffee (I have tea) every day at work.

I'll have to discuss the issue with my therapist, but I will be proceeding with hrt either way. I think some of my concerns do stem from my fear of coming out as a woman, but so far I've found that I'm quickly getting used to the minor changes I've been making so who knows I may end up being happy with my breast growth. And I guess if they grow too large and I end up really not liking them I can always have reduction surgery to make them smaller.
