Hey all,

so whats a good price for electro, and how do you know if ur being ripped off?? Of course itll prob vary but whats a good range? in $Canadian please, which is approx equal to the USD.

is it a good idea to be willing to pay a bit more if they are certified and have good credentials and stuff??

Hi, Phoenyx,

I have never had electro and i doubt that I will, however, when it comes to shopping for this service, a lot depends on where you live.

If you live in the GTA you might ask around.  Doing a Google search for transgender resources Toronto should get you some answers and among them there might be an electrologist who works with TG persons wanting electro.  The same basic advice would go for any other city.

Now if you're in Yellowknife it's an entirely different market due to the high cost of living there.  Same for Calgary.

Just get a hold of the Yellow Pages and "go shopping."  Electrologists don't care who they treat.  As one told me, "Skin is skin, hair is hair, and money is money."

Ya, I wish I knew where in CA you live? I am in the Toronto/Richmond hill area and have been for both electro and laser. I would find someone who has a long history of doing electro, the lady I saw has done it for over 20 years. I did an hour "I think, it was a while ago" but I do know I payed 170-175ca an hour...or it may have been 2 hours. My current laser technician offers it for 60.00ca an hour and does laser for around the same per treatment. But I don't think she has as much experience doing electro. Laser doesn't take much to do but electro is different and I wouldn't want a novice sticking a needle in my skin then electrocuting me.

Well I live in Edmonton, Alberta, so I hope that helps. I've tried the yellow pages, and one place charges $160/hr, and she has full certification and is a member of all those prof. associations. That seems like a big much though, but she has been in business for a while. I guess I could also check other places, but I could also keep doing some laser while I'm at it.

Also, you cant really do laser and electro at the same time in the same area, right??

I think around $60/hr is about standard where I live, here in Montana.  I do most of it myself and I go to a lady whos been doing it forever to get the places I can't see.  She is really impressed with the job I am doing and it is nice to be able to do it whenever I want.  Not to mention cheaper. 

Well here in the UK, I pay 40 UK pounds per hour, and she is very good. (hurts like hell). I paid the same amount per hour seven years ago but was being ripped off because the electrologist wasn't doing it right. Every time she zapped a hair and pulled it out it felt as if she was plucking it. It should just slide out. Wasted a fortune.

I used to pay US$60 per hour in the mid 90's.  It took a total of 297 hours to get rid of all those suckers! It did hurt....a lot!  However, I feel that it was one of the best investments I ever made, and I would do it all over again in a second.

Here in California I was paying $65 an hour 2 weeks ago.  My electrologist has raised her prices slightly for 2008.  I think it is $68 per hour now.   A 2 hour session costs ~$115.  Not managed to get back there yet in 2008, and I have a long way to go yet.  1 hour of pain is all I can take at present. I need to step it up to 2 hour sessions, but I need some kind of pain killer before I do that. 
 
Any suggestions?

self hypnosis.  If you breath slowly and let your mind relax you can get through it without any painkillers.  It helps to be well hydrated too.  When my facial hair was heavier i could get through over an hour this way and in some very sensitive areas too.  Key is painfull or not you have to persevere.  Its well worth it.
