Mine are a bit larger in diameter, not much. The nipple is slightly larger ... now difficult to wear any kind of a shirt without a bra.
I'm going to surmise that a portion of areola growth is less about the areola itself, and more about how the skin decides to stretch as the breast grows.
Theory: If breast tissue pushes outward sooner, you'll see more natural stretch on the areola. If the outward push is gradual, but your breast "fullness" increases more gradually, there will be less stress and stretch on the areolas over time.
Obviously, that's overly simplistic, and if you're like me and had minor man boobs to begin with, there's going to be less stretching either way because the skin was there and is just being filled in differently.
