Hi!

I came out publically and started living full time in February last year. I'm still pre HRT, but hoping to get on oestrogen really soon.

I got assaulted early in my transition which really knocked my confidence, and I've only noticed recently that I think its affected me more than what I first thought. I struggle in large crowd spaces like shops/bars/generally just large crowds. I dont think I ever let it show though, I just to tend to avoid situations like that, and I hate it. I never used to be like this, I used to be quite outgoing and a bit of a party animal.

Anyways - That was the background - I really want to get away on holiday, but I'm just very wary over where to go? (I'm 24 years old, MTF, from the UK).

So I'm after peoples experiences of travelling abroad either pre/post op?

Also - I would love to see America, but I've heard horror stories about certain states and bathroom bills etc, but have never actually spoken to anyone who is actually there?

Sorry thats all a bit long winded!

Welcome to Susan's Place. I have lived in California and now am in Arizona. I have travel around much of the south west United States and never had an issue in public. It depend pretty much on what you want to do and see on vacation. Mostly I was away from the populated areas because those are the places I enjoy. Most any city has places you should be careful about when visiting but things are not as bad here as the news makes it out to be.

An example is I had a sideline of vending at large trap shoots. One shoot may have had 4000 people visit us and I never had a problem with anybody. For the most part, people are pretty accepting.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

I'd say try to be confident ...
have a kind of regal attitude ... usually people feel that ...

This is an international travel guide, note its lgbt and not trans specific.
For specific countries you might also have a check for trans friendliness.
The last page is the us states.

Well and stray people could be everywhere.

I'd say try to be confident and don't worry too much.

Thanks! Thats all I seem to be able to find online is stuff relating to mainly gay and lesbian tourism, but Im very aware that theres still different attitudes towards the transgender community in some places.

I think I come across as confident most of the time, but inside my anxiety is through the roof! I know it will just get better with time :)

When I was trying to "figure all this out" I spent 4 days in Orlando Florida.  Disney employees are wonderful.  Stay in the touristy areas of Orlando and you will not have any issues.  (Disney is also "bathroom friendly.")

While there I went to St Augustine without any challenges either.  That was my first day out in public, nervous as heck and had zero issues.  I also did a trip to Winter Park which is a quite boutique type of town.  Lots of sidewalk cafe's and nice people.

Good luck and let us know where you go and how it went.

I, my friend am from America and more specifically Seattle. I am a non passing MtF and have had no issues in my beloved city. We are a city where every police officer received trans-specific training and literally ALL my friends are gay. Besides, we have water, whales, (mostly during the summer) sunshine, Boeing, and lots and lots of loving introverted people who run bookstores with cats. I kid you not, there is a rainbow sidewalk in one neighborhood. You have heard about bathroom bills, and may I just say is that people don't care about these things. So many people think they are ridiculous. Did I mention British Airways flies nonstop?
