Hiya Well I'm scheduled for SRS in May and I'm wondering how anyone on here found the Bangkok Rama..
It appeals so me due to the gardens and cottages. I've recovered from major surgery (FFS) before and the area outside of the apartment that I was staying in was super built up and noisy, with no green things around. When  I was more mobile, near the end of my stay, I found a small park which really helped to surprising extent.
However I've heard some very mixed reviews about the hotel, some really good and some quite poor. I'm fine with décor which is a wee bit out of date and not having all of the latest services and luxury- I've spent some time in Thailand before, and got used to the ubiquitous mild state of Thai dysfunction, I find it a little charming actually lol.
What I don't like is dirtiness, mosquitos, bad/surly service and somewhere that doesn't feel safe etc.
So garden is a big deal for me, but if it's a nasty place I think I'll have to stump up for the vertical suites or something, ooh I'm on a budget too, so I'm price sensitive :p

I was on a budget too and very please with the RAMA. It's not nasty or scary lol the staff that work there are very nice & friendly. To me it's very peaceful, the greenary and the birds chirping. I really enjoyed my time there during my healing stage.

I do love birds and greenery, I grew up in a very beautiful part of rural ne Zealand, and I find I'm much happier with a little bit of nature around me, especially like you said while healing or recovering from something Do you mind if I ask how long ago you stayed? Thanks, Claire

If people are alone its advised to stock up on food and make friends the first days there. So somebody could help in case.
Usually the transgender people are housed in one tract.

The liquid food is said to not be as varied as in the Dusit. Also there were comments the staff in the Dusit would speak a bit better english, and would be willing to serve better, like people with donut cushions being seated and served.

When I was there I stayed in the hotel. It was OK and that's about all I can say. On the other hand I found myself often walking back to the cottages in the back. Once you get back there you feel like your in the country. It is so peaceful......Oh they have a cat farm back there too so I would pet the cats.

Thanks! I just had a look at the Rama video and I'll look at the PDF stuff when I have a bit more time, that is super useful! Thanks again.
Well my boyfriend will hopefully be coming over for a few weeks to help with recovery, so hopefully he can run many errands to cater to my each and every whim :p But I'll definitely make sure to stock up if he can't make it (super hope he can though!).

Wow, really!? I really hope they're for pets not protein.. Well I like cats, and they seem to like me, so that could be nice, thanks

I have stayed there twice, You're right that the greenery and flowers are marvellous. It is very calm and tranquil considering the craziness of traffic and people that go on around it. The staff are excellent and will do all they can to make your stay as easy as possible.

They take good care of the cats and have them checked regularly by local vets. Part of the complex is a care home for local elderly folks and I think they like having them around.

The down side for me was I found the beds in the cottages really uncomfortable so had to by a picnic mattress from Tesco Lotus on both occasions. Good ones that lasted a big fatty like me a month are about 1400 baht but well worth it. The internet was patchy but I bought a local sim at the airport and added a data pack total cost 1050 baht for one month so when the hotel net failed I had my phone as a wifi hot spot.

If you want peace and quiet and can overcome the drawbacks the Rama is a great option. If you prefer luxury then I'd suggest one of the alternative hotels.

I stayed at the Dusit Princess for 3 weeks and I really liked it, no cats though 😥

You can visit the people at the rama ... there is an area where mostly transgender people are.

I use the term cat farm loosely. I mean there a ton of faro cats but many are tame enough to let you pet them. But then stray animals are all over the city.

Oh, right lol.. I had images of some sort of industrial cat farm facility, which seemed worrying.. :p
I have now read the 'Bambi's Guide' mentioned by Laura, it sounds like the cats are mostly 'Hotel Cats' which are fed and taken care of by the hotel, there are over 60 of them! (I love Thailand lol!), some are neighbour cats too apparently :p
