Really you didn't need a letter? That's cool how did that happen? Hmm well if I have to get two letters hopefully it won't be too bad and hopefully I'll have insurance that will at least cover the doctor visits for it

There's an LGBTQ clinic where I live that follows the informed consent model, so there's no therapy required unless you have other issues that you need to work out.

Oh wow that's awesome! I really think everyone should go to the informed consent route. Especially for surgery since no other plastic surgery requires a letter

Eh, I disagree. I like that the option is available, and I wish it were more available in other parts of the country, but I don't think it's an appropriate option for everyone. And especially with surgery, I absolutely think you should be required to have a letter. Plastic or not, it's a life altering procedure - you won't view yourself the same afterwards, and neither will other people. I think it's good to speak to someone and make sure that you're in a good place mentally to move forward with something that big.

And this is coming from someone who actively dislikes therapy and thinks it's the medical equivalent of voodoo :P

Lolol the medical equivalent of voodoo that's great! I get your point though. Some do need to talk things over before they go through with stuff like for me I don't think I need to talk to someone about surgery but I do need to if I decide I want t. I know I can't just jump into any other transition without talking to a therapist.
So I guess having more informed consent options would be great for the people who absolutely know and don't need any further convincing or debating
