I am sure you get sick of these questions.....but I'm asking anyway.

In my 5Os now. Not,about to change anything, it's a lot easier, I,think, being a 6 foot tall female who is fairly masculine than a male who,is feminine, but it would explain a lot of my life.

Physical breakdown: I have no and never have had inner labia. My urethra is *in*the vaginal canal. I am 6 feet tall. I have, however, carried just one child to term, had severe hyperemisis, started bleeding for no reason during my 8 month exam. I was very small breasted before childbirth. My menopause came very early, age 42. I get cysts on my ovaries, though even at 52, and even though there is 0 estrogen in my system. ( I've been tested for estrogen only)

Psycho/Social :  I was never a girly girl. I was always a tomboy, and always "odd". I have always gravitated and been gravitational to bisexual and homosexual people of all genders. I was my fathers "son" while my sisters worked inside with mother.  I would rather build something, garden, farm, play music or other " masculine" pursuits than feminine ones.

Anecdotal:  Family always acted like there was something to hide about me. I could list chapter and verse, but it would take too long.  My parents are gone, my sisters don't communicate with me.   The daughter I carried to term has several serious genetic and autoimmune disorders. All my sexual relationships have been with fairly effeminate men.

What I'm wondering is are there any forms of intersex where I could have been born with external male genitalia of some kind, and the plumbing was rerouted, causing my odd vaginal/vulval area, but had mostly functional internals...mostly because of the sketchy fertility I had and the very early menopause.

Again, it won't make a huge difference in how I live my life. It would just explain some thing about how it's gone too me.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Questions from those who are thinking about there issues are always welcome and I am sure you have put much though into this. Intersex is a possibility and can be confirmed with genetic testing in many cases but the test you might want are expensive. There is another possibility and that is you are insensitive to estrogen. Without estrogen, you will have additional hight and a less feminine body. Exposure to excessive testosterone before you were born is also a possibility that would change your sexual orientation and personality. It's hormones and not genetics that determine how our body develops before we are born. A male that isn't exposed to testosterone before birth will develop in a feminine direction.

In short, there are many factors and research into your early medical records and/or a careful medical examination would be need to sort everything out.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

Thanks, Dana, you've given me,something to work with. Not sure if I will be able to find my early medical records, the hospital is long gone, the family doc is dead. I can at least read up on things and research while I try to find a trace of documentation.

I also remember a strange smell in the genital area as a toddler, and  the family doctor examining my genitals.  Anecdotal for sure, but still.

The big problem is if you had surgery when you were younger. You are old enough that doctors played god and made "corrections" as they saw fit. Sometimes this created major issues as the child grew older. We have a number of people who are on the site because the doctors corrected them in the wrong direction and now they are transgender. The current thinking is if the defects don't cause any medical issues, delay the surgery until the child is old enough to determine what needs to be done.

You may still have surgical scars or differences that a close examination would detect but there are many variations in the normal female population so alterations might not be detectable. A doctor involved in correcting intersex issues is also a possibility because they would know what to look for. I am unsure where you live but I know at least one doctor local to me who would have the knowledge to spot differences but there are others.

I have a barely detectable thin white line above the clitorus, which could be a scar but who knows. My labia majors have always been large, and I mentioned the non existent labia minora.

Just knowing this stuff (the intersex surgery) happened helps me settle some things in my mind, even if I can never prove it or know.  Things like why, at a back doc apt the other day for my spondylosis and lumbar degeneration, when asked what I could no no longer do because of my condition, I blurted out " I can't be a man any more" ....( I can't pick up a
An 80 pound bag of sand or gravel, or dirt whatever) . Things like why in my 20s I could do 120-150 on a Lat pull down machine and heave heavy speakers and amps right alongside the guys in my band.....LOL.

I have a relative that could handle grain sacks right along side you while I could never chin myself in grade school. I may have been one of the few that came close to flunking PE. Strength is dependent on genetics and testosterone levels. I had enough Testosterone in my system to really damage my voice but I lacked the strength.

Testosterone is a easy and common test that you can have them run. My first lab test after returning to HRT had Testosterone levels but to measure estrogen, I will have to use another lab.

As for scars, your doctors should be able to determine that. Why they were made will be the more difficult question to answer.

Looks like a T test is where to start, and asking my gyno if she can determine what that line is.
