I got to get the heck out of Tennessee this place isn't doing any favors. I'm considering, as suggested earlier, moving to Washington State to start a new life and finally transition and live full time as the girl I always was.

I don't care if I arrive there with just the clothes on my back and only a hundred dollars it'll still be better than being stuck in Tennessee. At least in Washington not only will I be eligible for the state's medicaid it also covers transgender related care.

So yeah I'm at the point I don't care if I'm knee deep in poverty at least I'll be able to get healthcare coverage for hormones so I can finally transition.

Well if you think that will work for you then go for it. I'd suggest though trying to plan out a few contingencies first so as to avoid becoming broke and homeless after you get there.

When I transitioned, I had to move 400 miles away from home just to find doctors who knew what they were doing. The first order of business was to get a job even though I had $10,000 in the bank which would be the equivalent of $30,000 to $40,000 in todays dollars. Within a month, I had see my therapist 3 times and had started a new job. It would be best for you to start planing how you will support yourself after the move because to the best of my knowledge, money doesn't grow on trees.

Oh yes, hormones were still a year and a half off.

I would definitely have some contingency plans. I don't know what part of Washington you're looking at, but Seattle housing is far from cheap. If you're planning on making a move like that, I would highly suggest lining up some employment first. Looking for trans-friendly roommates to help cut the costs wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I wouldn't even know where to start as far as contingency plans.  As for getting a job as far as I'm concerned nothing is hiring or willing to hire me so I've given up after one too many rejections (even from fast food places go figure :P).
Also I want to move to the Tacoma area at least I'll be close by a Planned Parenthood clinic.

Overall the semester is ending and stress caused by parents is skyrocketing every day so my only option is to get out asap.

Good news is I can easily afford a plane ticket and still have plenty of my savings left over. Found two informed consent clinics in Tacoma and both accept medicaid. Only thing left to do is downsize my processions and be on my way to a new life.

Hi Emily. You stole my name :P

Informed consent is totally fine but please look for a therapist they are a huge help. Now on to the truth of it. You for sure want to go through transitioning and do not want anything jeopardizing that correct? Please plan this move as best as you can as to reduce future stress that will cause you to detransition later on because transitioning isn't easy physically nor emotionally add strangers stupid opinions and it will take a toll on you. I see too many stories of it being too much because people didn't tell them how hard it was. Well we don't exactly have a manual to fall back on for transitioning we just have our therapists and each other. The thought of turning back into a "man" scares the ->-bleeped-<- out of me and I'm sure you don't want that either.

At this point in my life I'm more than willing to endure whatever hardships transitioning throws at me even at an unfamiliar place. Yeah I do admit I wanna move to Washington so I can get on their medicaid and have health insurance to help with transition. I mean medicaid exists to help people who can't afford insurance and I'm willing to pay my share of taxes to keep the program running. Anyhow other than medicaid I belong out west as well and love the mountains. It's gonna be scary I won't deny that but I can not just sit here and let dysphoria consume me to the point where suicide is the only way out.

I too am likely going to move soonish but, mainly to be closer to my romantic partner, still while I am not moving to Washington I am going to be moving to a state with protections on gender identity which will be a nice change. I am not sure if IL covers surgery on Medicaid or not, I can't find hard evidence on it but hopefully some court cases will clear everything up soon.

Hey Hikari

Hope your move goes well and I'm sure Illinois will cover surgery real soon if it hasn't already. I definitely can't wait to move to a state where my gender identity is "legal".
