Hi Lin,

You need estradiol to grow breasts, but hormones affect your whole body, not just breasts.  Yes, impotence or sterility is  a possible side-effect.  You should only take hormones under a doctor's supervision. Hormones are powerful drugs that can cause many changes to your body.

lin00jih,

Welcome to the site. There are a lot of resources here. There are many people with many experiences. Bottom line, there is a lot of good help here.

However, what you are bringing up is self medicating. You really need a fully trained endocrinologist to help guide you through the process safely.

Additionally, as a topic, self medicating is not permitted on this website.

As a new member I will also pass along some links to help you. They have important information as well as the rules of the site. Among them is  Terms of Service #8. It reads:

Quote8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:

    A. You may not advocate for or against a specific medication or combinations of medication for personal gain. This is strictly prohibited.
    B. You may not discuss the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription. The discussion of self medication without a doctor's supervision is prohibited.
    C. The posting of recommended, or actual dosages, is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.

We cannot in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.

First of all I think you should see a gender therapist. He/she might be able to find out which way is best for you.

If you only want breasts without all the other glory, I suggest you consider a breast augmentation...

Hi Lin

Welcome to Susan's  :)

The path that is most likely to be recommended is to start with a therapist or psychiatrist, preferably someone who specializes in gender issues and can give you a Dr.s referral

An endocrinologist is most often preferred but a general practice M.D. who is familiar with gender issues is fully capable as well

Best wishes on your journey

Let's be very clear about one thing - you cannot pick and choose or mix and match the changes you get from hormones. If that were the case there would be a lot more happier trans people out there. An estrogen may stimulate breast growth but by by how much no one could say, and at any rate it will take at least two years and will have noticeable effects to many other aspects of your biology. You should only ever take hormones with medical supervision because, like any medication, they are potentially dangerous.

The good old fashion way to get breasts is simply to buy them. As in go for a breast augmentation. No HRT messing with the rest of your body at all
