UK Foreign Office Warns LGBT Tourists Travelling To The USA

The UK Foreign Office, which gives advice to British travelers, has issued new warning guidelines to members of the LGBT+ community traveling to the United States.

Whilst the Foreign Office has in the past issued warning to LGBT+ people about travelling to countries such as Russia, pointing out the country's 'gay propaganda' law, or Turkey, where same sex couples have been attacked following public displays of affection, they have not given advice on countries that are deemed to be 'progressive'.

Although this came out a few days ago and seemed hyperbole, now with Anita Staver, President of the Right-Wing hate group Family Liberty Council advocating taking guns into restrooms to protect from transgender people, this warning really does apply. Freaking appalling!!!!!

An over-reaction, IMO. There haven't actually been any incidents. Seems like an extreme step to take based on what might happen.

It's maybe a bit preemptive, but with several US states trying to pass bathroom bills, I don't know if it's an overreaction to warn people who might not be paying attention to international news. I don't know if every person in the UK would be aware that different states have different laws. It's likely that the last LGBT thing they heard of happening in the USA might be the equal marriage ruling, which would maybe give an overly positive view.

People should definitely research places they're going to visit before going... but the foreign office might be their first stop in that research
