I had hoped my hair loss would have stopped when I started HRT, but after a few months it merely slowed down. I feel the itching sensation towards the front of my hair line again and have lost afew more here or there. It's not super advanced but it's noticeable and not likely that it's going to stop and I'd rather just stop fighting it. Having come to terms with the fact that I'm probably going to need to wear a wig, I really need to know where I ought to look.

So, other girls with experience in this area. Where do you buy your wigs?

I really only want answers from people who have actually bought them from somewhere and can vouch for the website, store or brand from experience.

CatBlack,

Welcome to the site.

I had to buy a wig if I ever hope to pass in any way. I probably spent more than I needed to but used a service called Genesis Hair Loss Systems. They have multiple choices of types of wigs, netted, non...very good synthetic or human hair. They can also mount wigs medically that can attach to your scalp. However, because it is a wig they have to be replaced every so often.

I also wanted to pass along some links that are great for new members. They include information to the new member as well as the rules that govern the site. If you have not taken a moment to do so, please read them now:

Once again, welcome. Hope you find what you are looking for.

With warmth,

I'm sure there are many great places. But I got mine at theBreastFormStore.com they have a good variety and some that are top quality human hair wigs.
by the way, I am totally bald underneath mine.

I absolutely love Jon Renau wigs, which I buy from wigs.com, wigsbypattispearls.com and http://cysterwigs.com/ . If you have to wear a wig, then it's definitely worth taking the time and spending a little extra to get something of high quality and something that looks as real as possible. In my profile picture, I am wearing Julianne by Jon Renau in 4/27/30. Usually you can also find some great reviews on YouTube. Gabor and Raquel Welch also have some great wigs too.

As a member of the MPB club since the age of...forever, I feel your pain

THe real question is not where, but which. There is very little to absolutely zero info on comparing wig A to B, such as what sort of fiber is used etc. I've been ... disapointed, purchasing a big name brand wig to find it turns into a tangled up mess of knots by looking at it. And then there are the others.

As far as brands, Tony of Beverly and Jon Reneu(sp) mentioned above seem to use decent fibers. Of course you tend to get what you pay for. Cheap is... cheap. Expensive, tends to be better. There are reasons why wigs with similar lengths, coloring, and styles can cost $100 or more.

As to where... If you can do it, a wig shop is best. Otherwise stick to a recommended name brand. Coloring is best close to your natural color. Get a color ring and or color guarantee for a (almost) free do-over.

There are many variations of wigs and many opinions about which are preferable. Visually, though, there are only two kinds: wigs that look like wigs and wigs that look like they are the person's hair. Just looking at a few avatar photos on this forum you'll notice plenty of the former. I suggest you study the visual characteristics common to those and try to avoid them.

I've worn wigs, though not continually, for a couple of decades. I now only purchase the human hair type. Front lace is practically essential to avoid the wiggy look, though sometimes bangs can get you by. Brand recommendations really only apply to synthetic wigs. The big manufacturers only seriously concern themselves with products easily mass produced. You can't do that with human hair wigs. For human hair wigs you're practically always better off buying from a small scale wig maker-- both for qaulity and price.
