Heya!

I'm getting to the stage where I'm preparing to come out to my family and the inevitable massive backlash I'm going to get, but one of the major issues I'm going to have is changing my name. My real name is Luke, and my family will most likely refuse to call me anything different (probably forever) regardless of whether they accept my gender identity, but I think I have found a way around it. I was wondering if anybody could come up with any femme names which could be shortened down to Luke, or have Luke as a nickname? (like how my ftm friend was originally called Ash but changed his name to Ashlie) Thank you in advance! :D

I can't, and I really don't think you should anyway. YOU choose your name, not them.
Just be stronger than they are.  :)

Maybe wait to talk about names until after you come out, that might make it easier for all of you.

Sorry, I think Luke is a fairly distinctly male name with no female equivalent. I have to agree with both answers above. Choose a name that you want, hopefully with time your family will respect that choice.

I know someone irl who chose the name Luka and doesn't get many questions about it.

When it comes down to it, it's your name, and if it's not one you're happy with you'll either have to deal with it for a long time or change it. Try to find a name that suits you, and not one that suits the people around you.

Good luck in choosing a name and with family, hopefully in time they'll learn to accept.

I dug the name book out and couldn't find a feminization of Luke but I ran across a possible Leticia. A name is very personal so go the the name that you think is you and don't answer to the other name if you are uncomfortable with it.

Like the poster above said, Luca seems to be about the closest and it is used by both genders. It's root is from Greek and from the same general place that the name Luke came from.

A name carries kind of a vibration.

Do you feel any kind of connection would fit you ?

Possible would be Lucy ... and possibly all names starting with L .

Some people start out keeping the first letter and later choose something completely new.

I'd say let you be inspired ... by names you like ... names you read in stories ... names of people you know ...
often a name comes up and sticks. It may take a few weeks, but imo its likely a completely different name comes up.

You may keep Lucy or similar as second name.
