hi guys, ive been struggling with my identity for a long time now.. i've always known since i was around 8 years old.
im 23 now and i feel like ive already lost alot of time and really am in the need of making myself happy.
ive been depressed for a long time now and have been trying to fight it for the sake of my family.. but its no use.
i spoke with my girlfriend of almost 5 years and she supports me.
ive been doing some research online and found out about informed consent hrt.
i was wondering.. should i start the transition through planned parenthood? or my local lgbt center?
i read someones experience with planned parenthood and they said they just signed papers, got their script and was done.
on my locals lgbt center's page its basically the same.. but i really want to go to a place where the doctors really know what their doing and have a concern with my issue.
both pros and cons of both but i would really love to hear more of other peoples opinions and or experiences?

Welcome to Susan's Place. Informed consent works for some people but HRT isn't the total solution. We often have years of dysphoria pounding on us and it causes damage that we may not be able to deal with ourself. I would suggest you seek out a gender therapist who is skilled in working with us and spend a few sessions putting things in perspective. The LGBT center or possibly planned parenthood may be able to connect you with one in the area.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

I agree with Dena.  In my case a professional who I have come to know and trust and who had gotten to know me has helped quiet a bit. What you are going to embark upon is not to be taken lightly and having someone who knows "stuff" is worth their weight on gold.
