Mississippi Gov.: Schools "Should Not Participate" in Obama's "Social Experiment"

http://www.advocate.com/transgender/2016/5/15/mississippi-gov-schools-should-not-participate-obamas-social-experiment

The Advocate/BY YEZMIN VILLARREAL MAY 15 2016 11:37 PM EDT

"The Mississippi Gov.,who recently passed an anti-LGBT law in his state, spoke out against the Obama administration's directive that transgender students are protected under Title IX.

In a Facebook post published on Friday, Phil Bryant said that the "Mississippi Department of Education should disregard the so-called guidance the Obama administration has issued regarding public schools' restroom policies.""

Phil Bryant has done nothing for Mississippi schools during his term as governor. And it is no wonder that we consistently place in the bottom five states education wise. :( More stupid from the party of stupid.

He's either going to do it without a bunch of lawsuits or he'll do it with a bunch of lawsuits. If the people of MS want to spend their money on lawyers, I guess it's their money to spend.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Except we ain't got the money to spend on this. And without federal subsidies - which we could lose because of this - our public school system will totally and utterly collapse.

Did these people learn nothing from the civil rights movement? or did they just harbor resentment, only to try and hurt other people in the future.

To be fair, Mississippi has long had an unfortunate tradition of finishing in the bottom five states on many things.

I actually like most of the people I've met from Mississippi, but there's just not enough industry there to really support the population's demands and it shows.
When in doubt, ignore the moral judgments of anybody who engages in cannibalism.

I like Mississippians in general - what I don't like our state's government. No, we don't have enough industry, and the agricultural sector cannot (for various reasons including basic environmental issues) support the requisite public services or maintain our infrastructure at even a substandard level. What has the state's government done to remedy this? Nothing. And our purported 'Democrat' but in reality conservative governors have also done nothing to help.

Our tax system needs overhauled, our public schools need consistent funding - and not just the football and basketball teams, who never seem short of cash somehow! - the social services are in a total shambles - I wouldn't even know where to start to fix that hot mess - we don't have any kind of healthcare at all in a lot of places, my town included, food deserts everywhere, sex education is a joke and abortion inaccessible so teen pregnancy is really popular, as are std's, the local mob runs some of the utilities in quite a few places ...

Honest to god, one of my colleagues who has been around the world came back from a visit to Mississippi and informed me that he's been to third world countries that are better run. It is embarrassing. And a national shame.

The guy may not be part of the solution--and doesn't appear to want to be--but the problem really is a lot bigger than him.  Also older.  Honestly, I'm not sure Mississippi has truly been economically viable since, oh, about 1860.  And that only reminds me of demographics and the virtual epidemic which results when you take a demographic prone to diabetes and feed it a cheap, fried southern diet.

I'll actually stand up for funding college football and basketball teams as those two typically are the only NCAA sports which actually turn a profit (especially basketball with fewer players, less equipment, and more games) and generally fund the other programs.  Of course, as a Texan that only reminds me that high school football and basketball teams often get too much money at the expense of actual education.

Yeah, Mississippi really would be a much nicer place if it had two nickels to rub together.
