Oh.. Where to start. I guess first off I am just shy of 32 and have been doing the slow and steady method of transitioning from male to female for about 12 years. I started my transition after leaving the ARMY and seeing that my thoughts that something was not right with the way I was and how I felt about all of me. I unfortunately have lived with or around people that for the most part were hostile towards anything or anyone out of the norm for a male so I felt I had to maintain a social male face and attitude. I finally came out and told my close friends about it just over 2 years ago and have even let my employer know my situation. So far it has been hard as I am a low income person and am unable to afford surgeries so I have been using OTC herbals for my feminization and using the highly frowned upon grain alcohol method for testosterone "suppression". I recently found out that Medical covers all transgender health and the psychiatrist visits but I am leary anything smelling of shrinks as I have had some poor experiences with them in the past.

And to show for it this is me without makeup and just a padded bra:

Welcome to Susan's Place. We also have a policy against self medication that you will read about in the following links. As for therapy, you should attempt to use gender therapist who are knowledgeable in our treatment and will give you a fair hearing. The other way to go is informed consent through planed parent hood or possibly through your LGBT center. From what I understand, proper medical treatment is more effective and cheaper in addition to being far safer.

Your face is already fairly feminine I suspect you should be passing as feminine with strangers. Among people you know, it tends to take longer. If there is anything we can help you with, let us know.

I did not mean to break rules as I came in the door, I merely meant to clear the air and introduce myself and tell what I thought important about me.

I am looking into the whole idea of being above ground on the medical front but times are not changing fast where I live and the only Gender Identity therapist near by is not accepting new clients right now and the next closest is about a 9 hour drive away. Though I do whole heartedly think that people should be able to get professional help, I am not one to flinch away when I get scolded for something I know I have done wrong if I know it was the right thing to do to live with myself.

That said, if you want me to change something in my post to bring it up to the standards, please let me know.

Also thank you for the compliment, I do pass for female at work and when I go out but I generally have makeup, my glasses and feminine clothes to help smooth over the rough edges.

Don't worry about problems with your first post. It's a pretty common mistake and had there been a problem, the post would be corrected and a message sent to you notifying you of the modification and the issue. The moderators on this board are very active and we are here to assist you as much as possible.

If you require a therapist, there are some who do online sessions through Skype but their ability to write prescriptions may be limited by state boundaries so a combination of informed consent and online therapy might be a possible solution.

There may be others in your area who are aware of other places where you can receive care. There are a number of good doctors that don't specialize in transgender treatment but are knowledgable in treatment so you might request the type of assistance you need.
