Ok, having read the editorial, and having listened to the interview with Mara on CSPAN after the introduction of the trans-exclusive ENDA bill, I can't argue with anyone expressing their personal view, whether they're co-chair of an organization or not, but I can argue it's not anyone's place to argue for the resignation or dismissal of that individual by anyone else, especially in the media. It's up to the organization, and it seems they have spoken.
As to the Meredith's statements, last I heard it's called freedom of speech, and unless she signed a contract with specific language banning such statements, it's up to the NCTE to decide her fate. But considering Mara's words since, it's the difference between the two's words are political correctness and honesty. And sometimes honesty is the best policy.
