Sure hope that it wasn't me. I am a security guard and I occasionally stop at the supermarket on my way to work.

I would not think that anyone though of me as being masculine with my long hair if nothing else, but...

But maybe we all have these prejudices where we look at people and wonder things.

I'm sure we do, think it's pretty difficult for everyone to escape it. What is normal is always what we're used to see. So the more we see trans on the streets, in offices and stores, the more people will get used to it and we'll one day become common and mundane. Same goes for everything else, including all that could maybe surprise each of us according to our degree of ignorance on any given subject/practice/situation

For the same reason, I totally understand that people are surprised seeing a trans like me and I don't intend to get angry about it, I hope ever, even if they insist on saying mister and I'm wearing a sexy dress. I understand... the shock. I'm shocking haha

I was so moved to read this conversation.

I'm happy this thread reached people, I helped myself by starting it. It had been a few days I wanted to but wasn't sure how to put it, how to align the words, and I'm glad I finally did. From all this great sharing, I'm already further in my thinking, reactions and self-confidence than when I started it  things go fast

That is so true. Overweight people, women who are hairy, very tall people of either sex, very small people too. 'Matter out of place' will always be seen.

But with trans, a lot of it must be our paranoia - it could genuinely be someone thinking ''that's a nice jacket''.

I know that I have always looked at people, because I find them fascinating. I love sitting behind sunglasses and properly examining someone - mine are so dark that if I turn my face slightly away, it looks much less obvious.

I can't think I'll ever not.
