Hello ladies,

I officially had my SRS, 2wks post. I have been calling all my local districts clerks on information about the gender change. However they seem to be lost on how i can obtain a "Court ordered gender change " they don't have a form for it. Has anyone here had to change their gender marker in Texas, if so I'd appreciate some help.

You didn't  specify what you're changing, but everything is included here:

It looks like you change your birth certificate, then your license.

Also, here in Massachusetts it's done through Probate court, not district court.

Sorry, i need a court order to change my gender on my I.D and birth certificate. So i was looking for a form from any city in Texas that i could use as an outline to file for a gender change. My local county doesn't have any form, it's not common for Transgender people here to file.

There are separate forms for filing gender marker and name change. Often they are done at the same time. When I did mine there was a $300 fee for each document, separate from the others. I also chose to involve a lawyer who specialized in this so I paid additionally for her expertise and help, but technically, that is not supposed to be necessary. I did that simply for my own peace of mind.

In Texas, you can get your court order without SRS, which will allow you to change driver's license and social security records. Once those are changed, everything else can be changed pretty easily. Birth certificates are separate and require, I believe, SRS, but since I was not born in Texas I cannot say for sure.

If you want assistance in this process, the Houston based Transgender National Alliance often helps people through that process. I'll refer you to their Facebook page, which also has their website listed on it as well.

TNA has helped many people get their court order done. If you can handle the costs yourself, just asking them for help on how to do it should be easy. They also provide financial assistance in getting those changes made for people who cannot afford it, but that happens as they get funds available so may cause a wait.

Edit: Note that Texas is supposed to be now changing birth certificates without proof of SRS. But I've personally not yet heard of a case where this has occurred.

Thanks, appreciate the help. I will see how it goes tomorrow when i go and file with the name change form, some ladies in Texas said that form was accepted for the gender change. If not i will just get a lawyer and have them handle all that.

I know this topic is pretty old, but I thought others that were researching the process of changing the gender marker in Texas might find this information helpful. I found two websites that outline the process fairly well. I would post links, but I got called out for that a some time ago, so I just avoid doing it. Google these and I'm sure you'll find 'em.

Texas Name and Gender Marker Change

Travis County Law Library (which has a section on gender/name under "Other")

The two sites outline the process and provide sample forms and letters. Highlights: submit change petition, letters from physician(s) and possibly therapist, fingerprint card and a background check if you've been convicted of certain crimes. According to the site, there is no court fee for a gender marker change. Name changes are typically just less than $300. You do not have to have SRS.

Okay, so here's my dumb question of the day perhaps better asked of a lawyer. What if you petition the court and get the order for gender change and don't proceed with contacting all the other agencies, companies, etc? Other than the court record, has anything really changed?

Hope this helps,
