I have a operation coming up soon (not GRS) and ive heard + read many conflicting reports about what to do about HRT whether I should stop or not.

im currently on decapeptyl (every 3 months)
and Everol 50 patches (changed twice a week)

My T levels are nice and low,
my E levels are in the low but acceptable range (I may get put up a bit when I next speak with my gender clinic dr)

We cant get direct contact with my eneithritist (that's how it sounds, but I cant find the spelling so it probably miles wrong) to ask them if I should stop.

So whats the advice should I stop, does it make any difference and if I do stop will I feel like cr*p

Estradiol, the active ingredient in Evorel, is related to an increased risk in blood clotting. If your surgery will require you to be immobile for some time, the risk is even higher. That's why it's usually recommended to stop for a few weeks before and after surgery.

I don't know about the other one.

You won't experience any physical negative effects from stopping for a few weeks. Any chances you got until now took much longer than that to happen, so they won't go away just like that.

Maybe it will affect your mood. I can't speak about that as I still haven't started HRT. But if it does, well, it's only a few weeks, and it's the price for a safe surgery and recovery.

I agree with Promethea, the guidance is to stop E 4-6 weeks before your Op, not ideal, but best to be safe.

Wow really cause my op is on the 15th 8 days away and everyone ive asked has pushed me in the direction of someone else, My surgeon said it should be fine but I should ask my dr at the gender clinic, ive asked there  but they said I should ask my anaesthetist (that is the correct spelling apparently) as I am young and healthy (aka 24 and rather skinny) and might not need to stop, and then its impossible to contact the anaesthetist.

so in the chaos of arranging the op and the lack of any instructions I've continued hrt as normal and still don' know what todo

Welcome to Susan's Place. Your doctor will be able to give you a better opinion than I can, but the dangers come from if you have a history, if you will be bed bound and the extent of the surgery.

If you have a history or family history then testing and possibly anticoagulants might be called for.

After GRS you spend a day or two pretty much in bed and that elevates your risk of clots. I was in bed for on afternoon after my voice surgery and they had the expansion socks on me just in case. Mind you that I bleed like a stuck pig from the smallest cut.

If the surgery enters the circulatory system, blood clots are a big risk and anticoagulants will be required but the dosage might be different depending on your estrogen levels.

Last is pills carry a higher risk than patches, gel, injections or implants. The risk is relatively small but it exist so caution is advised.

I'd stop right now. You might not like it, but there's an unknown risk of something bad happening if you don't. It probably doesn't matter, but what if it did?

I had surgery a few years ago (not trans related) and I chose to stop. The surgeon had no knowledge of the risk of HRT, so I'd not really trust surgeons in general on this.

In the future, if you can get on bio-identical implants you don't need to stop for an surgery.
