Hello Ladies,

I have been doing my research about voice feminization surgery in Thailand but unfortunately there were not much feedback about it so I have decided to make a thread for this. Has anyone here have their voice feminization surgery in thailand? Specifically in Yanhee Hospital since it was one of the biggest and top cosmetic hospital I can ever find in BKK. Feel free to share your experiences if you have any.

My first choice is Yeson at South Korea but unfortunately it is a bit expensive and at the same time I need to file VISA if I want to go to south korea. This is why I prefer Thailand since it is easier for me to go there and I know that Thailand is #2 when it comes to cosmetic surgeries in Asia. So ladies if any of you have any experience in voice feminization surgery in Thailand, please let us know.

Quick look at their website in their voice change surgery page tells you that they perform Crico-thyroid approximation (CTA) which is an older and less successful technique compared to glottoplasty that Yeson and many other voice surgeons prefer to use today.

Does anyone in Thailand performs Glottoplasty?

I dont know, I never looked into that. You can try to search for it, its also called sometimes "vocal cord shortening" or "endoscopic voice feminization"... However make sure you hear enough before-after results before you even consider them.

that is true which i cannot find much I guess I had no choice but to fly to korea since yeson is the only one known for doing it in SouthEast Asia

I'm super interested in this too! I only ever hear of Yeson and Haben. In the process of trying to find the best VFS surgeon for me.

I would not reecommend a CTA-only procedure. And also be careful about the choice of surgeons doing glottoplasty or vocal fold shortening. I just read the paper that Dr Kim is publishing right now and he describes a bit the modifications he made to the widely available glottoplasty method. I am not sure how other surgeons hand this exactly, since few papers are published, but of course listening to people who had the surgery really is important - and not only go by people writing "I am happy with it" - happiness is very subjective and I would not have been happy with some of the voices I head from people who had the surgery in Germany and claimed to be happy...

I think you'll have to pick one of those. The chance of finding somewhere that no ones every heard of that's any good is pretty low.

I know Yanhee hospital well. It on the other side of the river in Bangkok. It has a long very good reputation  in Thailand and used by the locals. It is the only place that I have found that does electrolysis for facial hair removal. I use them and they are excellent.

They have an excellent staff that speaks English well and I suggest that you call them ot send an e mail with all your questions regarding voice surgery. They are prompt and very helpful.

He may be good at other surgeries, but one shouldn't get CTA these days, at least not as the only surgery.

Remacle in Belgium is also a safe bet.  To be fair, the surgery isn't a 100% given for a good result at either Haben, Kim, or Remacle but I say choose whichever is the most convenient.

Remarcle is good, he published 2 papers: http://www.jvoice.org/article/S0892-1997(13)00080-5/abstract , http://www.jvoice.org/article/S0892-1997(09)00112-X/abstract - I personally still think Dr Kim is my favourite, in his paper that comes out soon he has a higher number of patients and actually shows an improvement of peoples voices after surgery, not an increase in dysphonia.

That said - generally CTA is a very differnt surgery that has some drawbacks. Mainly it can produce uneven tension (hoarseness) or the effect of the surgery can slowly diminish with the years as the vocal folds stretch and in older CTA procedures the wire that holds the whole thing in place slowly moves through the cartilage - in both cases pitch may drop with time...

Knowing that Thailand has one of the countries with largest number of transgenders and number two in cosmetic surgery, I really cant believe they haven't invested on VFS.

It might be that the local trans population starts HRT at a very young age and doesn't need it.

Thai TGs are seen as a third gender. They still hold male ids. Yes most start transition early and my gf started at 11.  They do hv a deeper female voice but don't seem too concerned.

I am from the USA.. I did my GRS in Thailand and was the most amazing trip I have ever taken.. I love the Thai people and want to do my voice surgery there.. the exchange rate makes it so inexpensive and I have friends there.  So, here is hoping to find a doc that can do it in Thailand..

Following my FFS, BA & SRS with Dr Chettawut in 2008, I went back to Bangkok in 2010 for a follow-up check up with him and everything went all well but most and foremost was to thank him for his excellent job. Also, I took that opportunity to have a consultation with Professor Kunachak for Voice Feminisation Surgery. His clinic is located near Big C Commercial Center. It's in Bangkok but cannot remember anymore exactly where. The consultation went fine but the surgery itself scared me a lot because it's very invasive so I decided not to undergo. But maybe he has now a new technique and less invasive...
