Am I too old to start HRT?

Hi,

I am 42 years old and was considering trying HRT, to make me appear more feminine, but someone advised me that it would likely have no affect on me because of my age.  Are they correct?  Will it even still have any benefits for me at all?

That's nonsense. I started age 47 and it's helped a lot some three years later. It just depends on what you're hoping for and what you expect. There's things HRT won't do... like reduce your height/chin/forehead/hands/feet. It may give you DDs but more as likely it'll be B-Cs but for some it is A-AAs. If you're expecting to turn into a genetic teenager, then no. But if you expect to look like a mid-late thirty something female (HRT usually knocks a few years off) then you'll be fine. :)

Well I hope you aren't.  I'm 66 and just started.

Welcome to Susan's Place. HRT has restrictions as to how feminine it will make you but at your age and beyond it will have an effect. For reasons to lengthly to go into, my body never fully feminized and I have been off of them for the last 10 years. In 4 months of a more modern treatment but not a full transition dosage at age 64, I have seen my breast increase a cup size, body reshaping and fat added to my face. At 42 changes are still very possible.

I asked that similar question here about 3 1/2 years ago and enjoyed the funny responses from Cindy and the gathered circles.  They taught me a lot and part of what we learn is that the biggest obstacle to our progress is often our own fears and lack of knowledge.

A fantastic voyage awaits you and such journeys can begin with a single step you allow yourself to take.  We know we don't get any younger or closer to our dreams by waiting for?

I am 65 and started HRT one year ago. As Dena I am not at full transition dosage and moreover I do not take any anti-androgen (œstradiol and progesterone only). As regard body feminization I am quite happy. Psychologically I feel a lot better than before starting HRT. So at 42 you have a whole life ahead of you for living as a woman...  ;)

I a 54 and have been on HRT just over 3 years.

Like Dena said, it will not change your facial bone structure. It has softened my facial features very well. I have A size breasts. Breasts and facial features can be changed.

I started HRT at 61 and I am very pleased with the results! Soft skin, thinning of body hair, breast development (slowly) and most important, HRT really impacted my emotions and helped with my dysphoria. My body size is changing, from shoe size to band size. The degree feminization happens will depend also on genetics. Each of us in different and change at different rates. Gee, I sound like I am back in Education! I am  totally out and have my ID's all changed and my referral is in for SRS. I don't know where I would be if not for HRT. I was actually very depressed prior and thoughts of taking a long one way swim in the ocean was frequent. No more!
