I have been an under crossdresser for years. Now a widower and with major erectile dysfunction, I have begun to wonder if I should consider going the transgender route - not for any relationship  but to just make myself happy. I am considering: having an orchiectomy to reduce any residual testosterone, going on feminization hormones, maybe a breast augmentation at a later date and wear a silicone vaginal gaffe. That would avoid any major genital surgery. Wearing bras without forms, panties/girdles, stockings/pantyhose would make me feel as complete as I need to be happy. Any comments on this modified transitioning plan.
Thanks.

Transgender is an umbrella term that includes crossdressers.

Each of us does or doesn't do as much as they want or need to be happy.  Your plan sounds fine to me.  :)

Hormone replacement therapy is not something to be taken lightly.  There are some risks and side effects involved, such as blood clots and possible liver damage.  If you intend to take hormones, I imagine your doctor is going to want to make sure your erectile dysfunction is not being caused by either arteriosclerosis or a heart problem before starting you on the hormones.

And unless you can figure out a way to get the orchiectomy done right away (such as by private pay for the whole operation) then you are going to have to go on an antiandrogen like spironolactone.  If you are on meds for blood pressure (another possible cause of erectile dysfunction) then you are going to have to take into account drug interactions, since spiro reduces blood pressure.

While your plan sounds good, you may end up not needing breast augmentation after you start hormones.  Genetics seems to matter more than age in that area. A silicone vaginal gaffe should also be unnecessary if you have an orchiectomy.  What remains will be very easy to tuck away.
