I've been transitioning for a year now and I still cant find a surgeon who takes medicare I am just getting the run around. I am getting very frustrated, and I also am thinking the only way to get the surgery from a surgeon is to mutilate my gentials to the point where they have no choice in the matter. Its not bad enough that my gf comes home and sees me curled up in a ball rocking back and forth saying I want It gone or that every time I take a shower I contiplate remove them my self.  It is a daily battle for me just to keep myself from doing so. Help

Big hug! Please don't hurt yourself. Welcome to Susan's Place! If I remember correctly, the issue is that Medicare doesn't reimburse the surgeon enough to cover the procedure. We'll wait for others to chime in, though.

Hugs, Devlyn

*hugs*

If you hurt yourself, a GRS surgeon still won't treat you. :( You'll just get whatever basic stitching up an ER doc can do, and the odds of GRS being successful will go way down.

I'm so sorry, honey. Hang on for now.

One of the best srs surgeons (although not as well know like Dr. Bowers) is Dr. Loren Schechter in Chicago. He does epic work and is a caring and compassionate man. He does take medicare insurance. I can not say enough wonderful things about him and his staff. M
