As for Piyavate hospital itself, I was there most of yesterday and will update when I get back from my operation (that's tomorrow).

The hospital seems top range. Perhaps not quite as 7* as Bumrungrad but not far behind from what I saw yesterday and with a slightly cosier, more intimate, ambience.

Thanks, Richenda :)

I have already booked an apartment with Airbnb. It is 5 km from PAI, so that will be slightly inconvenient, but I hope it works out.

The problem with Hotel is that I am not coming for the surgery alone. I am 21, and my entire family wants to come with me to support me :D I am trying to take only 2 people with me, but for all I know, I might end up with 4 companions :P So, Apartment was a more reasonable thing, as it can adjust more people if needed, in the same costs.

You are ever so lucky to have such a supportive family ....few of us have that active support....its will all be great..

When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

Thank you, all :) I am so thankful every day for such a supportive family. They have had their difficult time dealing with it, but it does not deter them from caring for me.

Any advice on shopping and visiting beauty salons while in Bangkok? I don't have a very high budget, but I will still want to do a little bit of shopping and grooming ;-)

Thanks :)

Hi Meera,

The gorgeous Warlockmaker is the one to ask as she lives properly in Bangkok and speaks Thai too so she knows the people and the city. She'd be able to advise you on real Bangkok. As you will be at PAI you have places like Emporium and Terminal 21 very close by. I had my hair done out here by Chalachol who have around 14 salons in Bangkok and were brilliant. There's a branch near Pai on Sukhumvit Soi 55 although I went to Centrale Plaza because I used to live close to there.

If you have time off beforehand then I think Chatuchak Weekend Market is a great buzz. It's on the end of the Mo Chit SRS line. Probably not the place to go after the op though unless you're really feeling strong. The ferang backpackers all gravitate to the Khao San Road which isn't really close to anything and, personally, I wouldn't bother going back there.

But as I say, Warlockmaker is your girl for this.

with lots of love,

x

Here is a summary of where to go for deals and what to expect in prices:

1. Massages. Along Thonglor and near you apt there will be numerous places...these are clean but not fancy... 1 hour foot massage 250 to 300 baht , body massage Thai style 400 to 500 baht., oil massage 500 baht.
2. Pedicure manicure 400 baht. Color with normal 300baht.. color with gel or shallac 500 baht.
3. Hair .  Wash n blow-dry short hair 150 baht and long hair 200 baht

Shopping.. I suggest that you go to Platinum Mall...its the wholesale mall for buyers bit has mostly locals and tourist. Close to Central Grand off Sukumvit. Siam Center next to Paragon Mall. The big malls all have sales. I suggest Terminal 21, Central Grand and Emporium on the Sukumvit BTS line.
4. Taxis are very cheap and safe.. motorbikes are dangerous but used by locals and tourist. Traffic is a disaster and should go by the sky train BTS or MRT underground. If you are concerned about taxi and language then Uber is excellent.
5. Restraunts galore and all reasonable and safe ...streets side stall. .beware of msg. Average meals 100 baht per person.
Thais don't normally tip unless you become a frequent customer.

Anything else ..PM me

Thank you Richenda and Warlockmaker. These were very helpful comments. I have taken notes! :D

@ Warlockmaker: The costs do not seem to be all that high, so I think I can definitely get my hair and nails done while in Bangkok. :D As the time nears, I imagine I will have many questions about PAI and Bangkok. I will definitely let you know through PM, and I hope you wouldn't mind. Thank you so much for all the help :)
