I had my first appointment with the mental health system today. The good news is that I am in the system to start collecting letters and rubber stamps. Nuts enough to get in, but no so nuts that I need other treatment first, I guess.
The bad news is that I can't get an appointment to even begin my assessment until late November. Aargh! This is at a small town unit where things actually move fairly quickly. I have heard that wait times in the city are about two years. Lucky me!
I have a couple of other options to get on HRT sooner. There's an agency that helps street kids that apparently will do informed consent referrals. They cater to under-30 folks, but a couple of different people in the system have suggested them, even knowing my age. So I'll give them a call.
I also got a callback message (while I was at today's appointment, ironically) from a local doctor who does WPATH referrals and counselling. When I called last month, she was not taking new referrals and was on vacation anyway. But today's phone message suggests she is willing to take me on. We're playing telephone tag now.
