Hello everyone.  I have a question for those who have been on HRT.

I am 32 years of age and I just recently started seeing a psychiatrist and therapist at UAB in Birmingham Alabama.  My concern is that I may be too late for any amount of HRT to change how I look now to how I feel I should look.  I'm not sure what to do since I am on Alabama Medicaid for instance.  I'm disabled on SSI so I don't have money to pay for things I have thought of coming off of the disability and trying to hunt for a job but who's going to hire someone who has a history of being in the psychiatric hospital?  Thank you for any advice anyone may give.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Leaving SSI, finding work and transitioning is something you will need to talk over with your doctors. Transitioning is stressful and they will be in a better position to judge this than we are. I don't see why your history should keep you from working as long as you follow any therapy and medication requirements. Many people have needed hospitalization to deal with difficulties and returned to the workforce without difficulties. As for transitioning at 32 years of age, I have a very old thread that might open your eyes. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I hope 32 isn't too late, because I started HRT/AA ten weeks ago, and I'm 35.

Even after just ten weeks on a low dose, my skin's less greasy and it's getting softer, my face appearance has changed a tiny amount (which surprised me since I thought it would take longer), and my boobs are most definitely growing.   Overall, I feel better.  The changes aren't huge, but they haven't stopped happening yet.  I have no regrets so far, and hope it continues in the direction its going.

I sure hope that 32 isn't too late.  I'm 61 and planning to go on HRT as soon as I can jump through all the right hoops.

Its not too late at all! I started a few months ago, right before my 39th birthday. I have so far seen some decent physical developments: chubbier cheeks, an actual defined waist, softer skin, lighter arm hair and decent breast development. Obviously this is a YMMV thing, but I would guess that the odds are in your favor.

I Went to see the psychiatrist and therapist and I have some good news.  I will be starting HRT soon. 

From what I've seen, age is not a factor for a successful transition.  At all.  Many, many people start much, much later than 32 years old.

Of greater importance to a successful transition is financial stability.  Transitioning can be very expensive.  I would be much more concerned about your earning potential and cash savings, and less concerned about your age.

I'm 40, I started a little over a year ago, my journey has been most successful.  I'd say go for it.  Just remember, you will have to take more time, and work a little harder than a 19 year old, but don't be discouraged!

32 is not to old.  I have many friends in their 40's, 50's and 60's who have transitioned successfully. 

As everyone has stated, 32 is not too old! I started my transition at 61. Each person will develop differently as they start HRT. Many things can influence this, such as genetics and level of dosage. Glad you have started therapy. It comes down to how fast you wish to transition. This is your choice. You can choose to take baby steps or just jump in the deep end! Many woman here have chosen to slow their transition and are on low dosage HRT. Others have started with a transition dosage. All the best as you progress on your journey. Patience is the key! Enjoy

I started at 33... It's not too late. I also lost about 60 lbs and getting into shape also helps with HRT I think.

I started HRT on June 2nd and turned 67 on July 28th so, no 32 is NOT too late.

My answer is no I started in 58

Hi,

I started at 57 and had surgery at 58. If the decision is made and backed up to get approval the big fact to hold one back is being in good health. Of course there are other facts but that is not due to age.

I started HRT recently, at the age of 42 (the meaning of life, apparently).  32 is most definitely not too old to start hrt or transition!  Go for it!

You can never be too old to be happy in your body. Like you I started in my 30's I was 31 when I started hormones. And have had great results but personally it's not always about the results it's about how you feel as a person. One of the big things holding me back for so many years was the ability to pass being the big hairy masculine man I was but in reality once you start you will care less and less about passing and realize how happy and more comfortable you are.

I don't pass 100% and I get misgendered all the time and that sucks but at the end of the day I would never go back to who I was. Life is far too short to be unhappy
