I have always parted my hair on the right and it naturally falls that way (maybe just because I've had it like that for so long though), but parting on the left is more traditional for men's styles. So should I change my parting? Might having it on the more typical left side help me pass? I'm not really sure if it matters that much any more, I've seen plenty of cis guys with right-partings, but I'd rather avoid having another feminine cue if it does make any difference.

When I read this topic, I assumed parting had more to do with handedness than gender.

But I searched a bit online, came across a site that seems, well, sketchy, but talks about all the things that hair parting theoretically tells about you.

Then I saw a Men's Health page where they said, "if the spiral moves counter-clockwise, the part should be on your right side and vice versa."

So go with the direction of your hair.

The alternative is to believe in a random website that's probably about as accurate as phrenology. Which, even if they're right, has nothing in particular to do with how people will gender you. Your hair part won't make a difference.

Which side you part your hair on mainly depends on how your hair naturally lays. For example everyone in my family has one or more cowlicks, so we have to part it whichever way doesn't make it stand straight up. I've seen guys part their on both sides and sometimes in the middle, then there's also hairstyles without a part.

I've heard that as well, but don't think it makes much of a difference. My hair naturally parts on the right, but I've switched it to the left and back again countless times. Neither parting seemed to influence how people gendered me.
My conclusion was that whichever way I liked more in the mirror, I did the opposite so the rest of the world would see it that way:P. I'm parting my hair on the left for now.

I am always hesitant with parts as when I see middle age people it is where their part is that their hair is falling out.

Most of the time my hair naturally wants to part to the right which is fine by me since I have a brow piercing on the left. Kinda balances it out.

I've noticed that if I don't part my hair even the slightest I look like a little boy. Well, even more than I already do.

I've never heard of changing your hair parting to look more masculine. Your hair typically falls in a certain direction and there's not much you can do about that. Sounds like something certain media outlets have invented in order to make men feel insecure; like women needing to have a thigh gap.

Just the way it falls because even if I try parting it the other way round, it will just fall as it does by nature... unless I use tons of pomade. And even that won't help sometimes.
Never heard of the way you part your hair being gendered though

My natural part when I was a kid was right the middle,  a result of my parents putting it in pigtails.  Now it parts on the right,  which was uncomfortable at first but that was the hairstyle the Japanese barber gave me. I just let it do its thing, otherwise I have a ridiculous mop of hair.

My hair is nothing but a series of cowlicks and waves/curls... soooo it does what it likes now that I've cut it short (from mid-back). Usually parted on the right, once in a while the left. Having my hair a bit longer helps weigh it down a bit for a bit more control.

When my hair was long, I often straightened it and had a centre part. Now that it's short, it's open season.

I've never heard about the side hair being parted indicating anything... other than the natural way your hair parts.

I always heard that the way men part their hair indicated whether they grew up with a parent parting it for them or started themselves using a mirror because people tend to prefer the look of one side. The left, I think? If so, it doesn't indicate anything about gender, just habit and aesthetic preference.

I've got a mess of cowlicks including one at each side where I'd part, so I go back and forth depending on which way my hair wants to fall in specific haircuts. Lately that's been my left.

Thanks for the replies everyone, you've definitely stopped me being bothered about it. I'm not sure which way my swirl goes but a right parting always feels more natural and suits my cowlicks so I think I'll stick with that. Plus I can never get a left parting to stay without tons of gel anyways.

I didn't know that was a gendered thing, but I part mine to the right.

I wouldn't think its a gendered thing.  I just go with where my hair likes to fall naturally; I put a hard part on my right side.
